smilies not displaying on recent comments pal

Any idea why smilies may not display on the recent comments pal on the home page? They have never displayed for us on the latest version. This is what we get.

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.

that is because smilies are not parsed to display there.

You can try making line 282 of index.php this

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.

Thanks. That was really useful. Even though it didn't fix that particular smilie, it did fix all the others. The one I was watching didn't change. That broken image link is still there. The others were previously coming through as text and they have all changed to smilies now.

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
Any idea what the problem could be with the first one? In the message it displays as the same standard smilie that's used at the bottom of this screenshot. It's strange that it displays correctly in the message but not here.

If I view the source code of that page I can see that the link is broken. It has ... after the subdomain - the rest is missing.

The other smilies that are displaying have the whole link there.

Why would this one not be in the html there?

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.

If I go to the photo page, then go to the comment with the broken smilie, this is the content of the post which I see if I click on edit.
Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.

Update: It looked like there was nothing wrong with it, but it just didn't come through to the last comments pal. I deleted the smilie, saved the comment, edited & put the smilie back in exactly the same. Then it displayed. I have no idea why it didn't work the first time, but it must have been a glitch of some sort.
