Photo Description Limit?

Hello,

I recently upgraded a couple of versions to version 8.2.3.

Since the upgrade, one of my members is reporting to me that he can no longer post long descriptions when he uploads his images. What he reported, was that the story he posted got cut off and only part of it appeared.

This particular member typically uploads vintage photos and will put in long descriptions with stories on the history of the images involved.

I was wondering if there is a setting which would limit the number of characters in the description and if so, can I alter it to allow longer descriptions.

Thanks in advance for your help,

-Chris

How big of a description is he trying to post? There is no limit in our program on a description the database field is a text field.

Hi Chuck,

I don't know the number of characters to be honest.

This member tends to post long stories with his pictures.

Basically he found that on one pic it only saved part of his story.

I'll get him to try again and see what happens and report back.

yeah I would be suspicious if it was only one photo he has an issue with and can post descriptions everywhere else. probally a fluke but would need more info.

Hi Chuck,

Here's what I can report back on....

I got the member to retry uploading his photo and description once again.

The second time, he had the same result, in that the image uploaded fine but the description was shortened down and only partially posted. So I had the member PM me what the full description should be that he tried to enter. I then went in and attempted to first edit his image and insert the full description he sent me and I was successful in doing that as the description appeared fine after the edit.

I then tried uploading a random image myself along with the members full description and here's what happened.

On the first upload screen, I browsed to a single image on my desktop and then entrered the members long description for it into the description box. The image then uploaded and took me to the second upload screen for additional options. At that point, I checked the description field and at that point I noticed that the description had already been shortened down to about half of what I originally entered. So I then repasted the full description back into the description box on the second screen and did the final upload and the description appeared as it should.

So it would appear the issue is related to entering a long description in the first upload element, not the second.

Hopefully I explained that well enough.

Chris

That makes sense and the limit is not in our program. The issue is this when you submit an image we check to see if there are multiple images to process or if the category your uploading to has extra info you have to fill out. If that happens your forwarded to another script called bulkupload.php

The issue is the limitation is from your server. There is a uri limitation on the amount of data one can send and that is where your data is cut down.

You can have your host look at the server apache setup restrictions see if they can raise any limit on the amount of data there is. Sending stuff to bulkupload requires a get not post command.

Now the user also can reenter the description on bulkupload after it is send. That should work as well. He just has to double check it when he uploads.

Ok thanks Chuck. :)
