Watermark settings

Hi,

Can I please get some help with my watermarking settings.

I currently have:

* Enable on-the-fly image protection
This option uses the watermark.php script to serve images - YES
*When using on-the-fly image generation, do you want to overlay the watermark image? You can use this feature for on-the-fly watermarks in combination with the on-the-fly image generation. - YES

Watermark options ....

Enable watermarking of photos with overlay image? - YES
If enabled, position of overlay watermark on images. -South East

No stamping is currently enabled in categories.

The problem I have is that when a photo is viewed in the gallery, the watermark is visible. eg: Eggs101 - Backyard Poultry Photo Gallery

However, when I use the embed code to put that image into a forum post, the watermark is not visible: http://forum.backyardpoultry.com/vie...f=18&t=8019328

Any help with this would be appreciated, Thanks.

That is an easy one. Your electing to use on the fly watermarking which does not permanently watermark an image and your showing a direct link to that image in your forum. Since the image is not actually watermarked it would not show one.

On the fly watermarking is an internal script watermarking options. Your files are not permanently damaged by a permanent watermarking.

If you want images to be permanently watermarked then you would need to use permanent watermarking which is another option in the program which is set in watermark options which you have turned on but under edit categories you would need to set which groups get images watermarked.

I don't want files to be permanently watermarked. I'd like them to display on the forum in the same way that they display in the gallery. I'm surprised to hear that this is only an internal script option because I'm positive we had that working on this gallery in the past prior to the software upgrade. I am not aware if that was a modification or not though because I wasn't looking after it then. We were able to display photos within forum posts with a temporary watermark. I know this because I could go to the direct link and get the picture without the watermark if I wanted to.

If I go with the permanent watermarking option, and turn it on in the categories, then would I need to turn on-the-fly off in order to avoid doubles in the gallery display?

Example of a recent double that was created when category stamping was on: http://gallery.backyardpoultry.com/s...covies&cat=585

That would be impossible without you modifying your forum or something as that was never an option that much I can tell you for sure. Our software likewise has nothing to do with how your forum img tag code works.

On the fly watermarking has worked the same way since the PHP version of the script was released almost ten years ago. The actual image is never watermarked meaning that if you post some link to the actual direct on disk image that image is not going to have a watermark.

On the fly watermarking works by using a script called watermark.php to show the image in your gallery. Your gallery options have nothing to do with how your forum works. You can not use script links to files in your forum posts that is not allowed. I know way back in the initial releases of vb3 back in 2004 you could use script links but that was turned off in your forum software early on.

If you use permanent watermarking you need to turn off on the fly as you can not use both without having double watermarks that is correct. ;)

Displaying an image in your forum in a post requires you to use the bbcode img tag which is a full direct url to some image. I see no way you can show a watermark without showing a watermarked image unless there is some forum hack or mod that watermarks images for you in the bbcode img tag in vb.

Thanks for the reply. It must have been a mod then because we definitely had it.

OK, so to protect our members' pictures I'm going to need to use permanent category based stamping then. I've turned this on in the categories and just changed to this ...

* Enable on-the-fly image protection
This option uses the watermark.php script to serve images - NO

I assume that's all I need to change. I'll see how that goes. We'll just need to be aware that we cannot ever retrieve any unstamped pictures.

The upside is that it's far more secure for people.

Yes you would need to find whatever mod if you do not want to use permanent watermarking. Your talking your forum script not gallery script. We have no control over how that bbcode thing works on the forum.

As far as your gallery settings yes you simply just need to turn off on the fly image protection and set the proper usergroup perms for watermarking under edit categories for your users.
