Restrict category but allow thumbs?
 

I know you can do this with guests but I would like to have a category that has images, registered and guests can see the thumbs but only a specific user group can access.

Is this possible?

well not possible without some type of plugin code which is nice with the new plugin system.

I assume your talking about the setting that if for guests allows them to view the thumb but not the large picture. This can get quite complicated since users can belong to many groups in vbulletin. For example if you create a plugin in admin on location showphoto_top or really any one of the showphoto hook locations the code below will restrict the viewing of images to admin and that special group you create I used 9 in my example.

If you let me know more info I might be able to simplify things but $User['usergroups'] should return the list of groups a user is in like for example a user who is registered an admin and a member of some custom group with the id of 9 would be 2,6,9.

I think I might go at this sideways and split the gallery. I hate doing non standard things any more, even my addons are simple. Saves so much effort later.

You certainly own enough licenses. Just remember you definately do not want to upgrade if your using vbGallery because I think based on what I am seeing with vb5 that this is probally end of cycle for vbGallery meaning that product is essentially done.

I doubt after all the work of PhotoPost 8 in regards to mobile technology social networking etc that going forward your going to see anymore development in vbGallery since it requires extensive work everytime vBulletin releases anything. Too much work and no money intake. It just has never been a fiscally responsible product. ;)
