PhotoPost Pro 8.22 - Flash Uploader

How stable is the Flash Uploader?

Which would you prefer to use, what comes standard or enabling this?

Enable Flash uploader?
Selects flash uploader if user is registered and flash is installed. As a 3rd party plug-in, this option is not supported by PhotoPost support.

Chuck S October 24th, 2012 07:29 AM

that is the setting to enable it and I always use the flash uploader by default. It is personal choice.

420 October 24th, 2012 05:38 PM

Just tried uploading to my members gallery in flash and the photos are not there.

What happened?

420 October 24th, 2012 05:42 PM

I found them stuck in a que, why is this happening?

Chuck S October 24th, 2012 06:19 PM

Stuck in a what que where? You need to actually give me information so I can assist you. If there are stuck in our uploads directory then you would get an error saying a file could not processed for whatever reason or the dreaded white page issue if your using GD2 to process images. That means PHP has shut down on the server because the file is too large to process. If the file is larger than your PHP maximum upload then your server drops the file so there is nothing in our uploads directory so you would go through uploads and nothing happens.

If you turn off flash upload do uploads work normally. If this is the case your server could not work with the flash uploader which is totally possible it does not work on every server which is why there is a global on off switch.

Basically I need to know the specific issue you have to answer you. You can place a url and test login here as our support forum announcement states if you want us to try.

I figured it out, as always it's a learning curve whenever we upgrade your software.

Did not realize you had to click the Upload/Submit button after selecting the files.

Was very confusing to me the first time, wondering how many others it will confuse as well.

Chuck S October 24th, 2012 06:52 PM

Ah okay. You have always have to hit submit on the upload page to process your input. It is a form element. The only thing the flash uploader does is allow you to upload multiple files versus having to select a file per file input box.

You must have never used the flash uploader before as it has been an option in the software since version 6.2 which was released in September of 2008.

420 October 24th, 2012 08:54 PM

Never used flash upload, you are correct.

Now that we are using flash uploader, the "Upload from URL" box is missing from the uploads page. Is this supposed to be or is there a bug?

Thank you.

Chuck S October 24th, 2012 09:00 PM

That is correct the flash upload page is different from the standard page.

420 October 24th, 2012 09:13 PM

Is there any plan to add that into the flash uploader or not?

If not, can you please explain why?

Trying to figure out if we need it or not.

My staff uses it all day long, to fix photos embedded in threads from offsite. We like to keep everything onsite, so when the offsite host deletes the photo, we're not left with thousands of red X's all over the site, instead of photos.

Thank you.

Chuck S October 24th, 2012 09:17 PM

different options which may not be compatible for use on the flash upload page are removed from that page. That is why they do not exist there.

420 October 24th, 2012 09:33 PM

I just tried uploading a photo to your test gallery here, however it is using the old method, not flash?

Plus it's on VB 3.81?

Chuck S October 24th, 2012 10:20 PM

Okay not sure what that has to do with the question you asked and I answered.

420 October 24th, 2012 10:52 PM

I asked

You replied

Then I try to upload on your test gallery and see it is not using flash.

Why is that, if it's your personal choice and you are the developer of this software?

Chuck S October 24th, 2012 10:54 PM

On my personal site I do use the flash uploader. You are not talking about my site I would suspect. If your talking about the actual company site then there is the problem as that is not my site. You know my site very well.

420 October 24th, 2012 11:16 PM

No, I am talking about the test gallery here that I linked to above
Login - PhotoPost Photo Gallery

I'm trying to figure out if we should use Flash or the other way, so I asked your opinion on which is better. You say Flash is your personal choice, yet you use the other on this website. I am confused and wondering why you are not using Flash on this website for testing purposes, if it's your preferred method.

You are the developer here, you answer all of these support requests by yourself mostly. Why would you not have Flash being used here?

There must be an explanation, I'd like to hear it.

Thanks for helping me understand your logic, hopefully it will help me in my decision making process.

Chuck S October 25th, 2012 07:33 AM

The test gallery here is setup the way it is. You asked my opinion and I said on my personal sites I always use it so I gave you my viewpoint. Otherwise quite simply it is personal choice much like any other feature.

420 October 25th, 2012 07:59 PM

Why don't you use Flash upload here on your test gallery?

Chuck S October 25th, 2012 08:46 PM

The owner of the site here can setup his gallery anyway he wishes just like you can. Just like he chooses to use vb3 here not vb4. As I have already said anyone can choose to use a feature or not. I use it. The next user might not.

420 October 25th, 2012 09:02 PM

I'll ask Michael to reply then, there has to be a logical answer.

Thanks Chuck.
