Image verification on photo comments? Chuck, I'm over on your Reeftalk site browsing around just getting an idea how the latest version of PP8 works, assuming that is what you have loaded. I noticed that in order to even leave a comment on any photos even though I am logged in, I get this message Image Verification (please enter the code on the left in the box on the right) Why would someone being logged in have to type an image verification for every photo they make a comment? Am I missing something, or is this just setup on your site but not the standard. Forcing verified members to type in image verification just to make a critique/comment on every photo is going to put a screeching halt to anyone at all making comments on photos. |
Actually you are looking at 8.1 not out yet if your there. First off it halts nothing it is a spam prevention feature. You can choice which usergroups have to do captcha. With spam bots being able to get past most registration things nowadays meaning they are actual users on a site adding in spam prevention detection is not a bad thing. You choose what you want to do but it is a feature none the less in the newer version. |
we don't let in spammers :) I'm guessing you get a lot more sign ups per day than we do. Every person gets searched in Google by me with their email address and also Facebook since a good number of photographers frequent Facebook. I'm getting pretty good at spotting the ones that think they got by even before I start to do a search. :D So as long as I had only one group set (maybe new members I am not sure about yet) as having to do the image verification, then no other members would have to enter the code. |
Like I said you can use it or not. The majority of sites have active registrations and spam is a factor. I deal with spam here even with filters in place which is why every group except verified customers have to enter a code to post here. |
