Picture Resize?

Hello everyone,

Some of the users to my website are very novice when it comes to re-sizing pictures. I have my gallery setup not to accept anything larger than 1024x768.

Is there a way or plugin that can be added that would let a user upload any size picture and automatically re-sized to 1024x768.

or...

Does this already exist and I miss it totally....

Thanks for the help.

The program resizes photos down to the max dimensions you specify in the upload options in admin so it already exists.

Hi Chuck,

I must have something setup wrong, because for my install it does not work.

My setting are set to 1024x728 with 8192kb as maximums.

I just tired uploading a pictureof 4000x3000 with size of 4.63mg and got the following error:

P1010499.JPG (fichier trop volumineux.)

I have the French installation, so error msg is in French.

What did I miss?

More info...

I noticed that in the usergroups I had a limit set to 1024KB, so I set it to 0 and tired uploading my image of 4000x3000 again...

This time I got the following error:

the website encountered an error while retrieving /forums/photopost/bulkupload.php?ppaction=addphotos&do=preview&defcat=500. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.

I uploaded a picture with the following size 1920x1440 and it worked. So I am guessing that it just doesnt like the 4000x3000 size. Is there a maxsize?

Are you using GD2 or Imagemagick to resize photos.

If your using GD2 then that is probally causing php to crash on large images. There are threads here about increasing PHP memory but I usually suggest switching to Imagemagick.

Hi Chuck,

I am using GD2, that is what is set in my global options. How do I switch to Imagemagick? is it as simple as changing the option in the Global Options? If I switch will it affect my current image gallery?

If I remain on GD2 is 2048kb the Max filesize?

Sorry for the multiple questiions and many thanks for the help.

There is no predetermined size for gd2 is is whatever it crashes PHP which can vary by file.

You can switch to Imagemagick but first you need to see if mogrify is installed on your server. If it is installed you can set the server path to mogrify in the config settings then in global options set the processor to Imagemagick.
