Category thumbnail images

I guess by design the number of next and previous images displayed above the current image being viewed is 7. How can I change this to a smaller number.

On smaller screens those thumbnails up top, line up in rows of 7, which stretches the navigation bar to the right.

Any suggestions to reduce the number being shown up-top?

No suggestions that are supported. from a support perspective I would state to set the block on the left or right.
