| changing user name in vB does it affect PP photos
I've had a couple users ask to have their user name changed.
We use vB 4.1 and I'm wondering if I change their user name, does it automatically make the changes on all the photos they uploaded and any comments made on others photos as well as theirs?
The most recent person was someone who had only uploaded 2 photos so far.
I changed their name to correct their typo, and all was fine in vB but the 2 photos they uploaded seemed not to change names and I had to change them individually. Is there a better way to go about this?
Does it have to be done on the back end within the database?

That would be correct since vbulletin does not even know photopost is installed they are two separate programs. Any action in our admin does not affect vb and no actions you do in vb's admin will affect PhotoPost.
Now if you have changed a users name in your forum to update photopost with no names based on a users userid under admin => scan database there is a checkbox to scan and update usernames on photos and comments.
You run that and you will be fine.

What about if you want to merge users?
How would you go about that

Geiri exactly why we have an update username function in our admin because people do change there usernames.
Merging users is a vbulletin function. There is no such functionality in photopost. You can always update usernames using our function if they change but there is no utility to merge one persons images with another.

But, merge one persons images with another would be very nice and help solve these problems.
One day we will add it

ok, I need to know exactly what this will do. From your description Chuck, this was the only option I saw that seemed to match
Check here to resync photo/comments usernames/update comments counts.
So does this mean if member #1 made 1000 comments on photos throughout the site, one of them being member #2's photos. If member #2 has since deleted 10 of those photos making 10 less comments, will the count of comments made by member #1 still be 1000 unless I run the resync process?
Many of our members pride themselves for having high counts of photo critiques to other members.

If you delete photos and comments of course counts will go down on the photos etc. That option I am referring to is what will update the usernames.

To check how this works, I found one of my own photos that has one comment by me.
I deleted the photo but my comment count still stays the same.
so it seems to only update comment counts after I would run the process.
I just want to update the user name. I'm trying to gradually change users names who still participate in the weekly contest to make sure they have no spaces in their user name i.e. first last, I change it to firstlast
I'm doing this to match all the tags I am giving winning photos potw-username, potm-username etc.

That option most definately grabs the username in vb based off the userid in the photos and comments tables and puts the proper username on there.
Its not going to update titles your placing on photos etc. It will only update the actual posters username.

thanks, thats what I needed it to do. What I meant by tags was the key words I place on winning photos. I use those exact same naming conventions for tags in the forum posts that also announce those winners. I've noticed if I keyword a photo as potw-user name it only searches for potw-user then stops. I'm thinking ahead in case I need it to work the way I am envisioning

Yeah keywords you explicitly place on a photo so nothing going to update that unless of course you edit each photo and change its keywords. |

I know that thats why I wanted to take out spaces.
oh, btw... I like the new change in how the search or thumbnails of keywords display.
I know last year before we updated to vB4x and the latest of PP, all I saw were thumbnails with no titles or user names. Now I see both plus the date the photo was submitted, I like it much better now
Also, I noticed now I can at least grab the search url with the keyword before it gives it the unique search id that you mentioned to me last year eventually expired. This will work better now for me to create a contest leader board that I don't have to keep updating the search id yeah!!!
This is the results of how I use the keyword search to show a members wins.
Now I just have to find someone who can integrate it into the vB profile. BytePhoto Galleries - |
