Two installations communicating with each other

Hi all,

I have an install of Photopost Pro for my site birdviewing.com/gallery. I decided to make a dev site and I put it at birdviewing.com/dev. I put the dev photopos at birdviewing.com/dev/gallery and the forum at birdviewing.com/dev/forums.

For some reason, the live site config-inc and config-int adopted the paths for the dev site. When I tried to change them back they wouldn't go. I had to upload the good config files, then adjust the values in the admincp without visiting the site and I was able to get them back. My dev site now has the live site config values.

What could be causing this duplication?

Well you need to make sure you have a completely seperate install right now it simply seems like you are placing a copy of your working photopost in this dev place but as you can see the paths etc are all from your normal install because this is how that database is installed.

Second when making a dev site to be compliant with the licensing it can not be accessible via the web meaning I should not be able to access your dev site.

I did change all the paths and created new dbs for the dev site. Anyhow I guess its just one of lifes mysteries.

I didn't know about the dev site not being public. I will rectify this.

well if they are in separate databases run the install script on the dev site to correct all paths urls to your new dev location and you should be fine.

Yes any dev site needs to be private as noted by the licensing. just drop an htaccess authentication into your dev forum as vbulletins licensing is exactly the same
