How to prevent images from 'sticking'?

It seems as though one of my categories causes all photos in them to 'stick'. How do I prevent this? The one difference between this category and others is how we load photos to them. 'Person A' gives the photo to 'person B'. Person B uploads the photo to this category. I then modify the owner back to person A at a later date (we 'reveal' a bunch of photos all at once).

But one person complained that the photos from this category always stay at the front of their gallery. I noticed that all of the images were 'stuck'. I can manually change them (but is there an easier way)? And how do I prevent it going forward?

Thanks

Maybe something in how you reassign owners or are editing them.

You have a link?

Thanks for the lightning fast reply, Chuck.

Here is the parent category. I think all of the sub categories have this problem. e.g. here is one of the children. Each photo in here is stuck.

If you then look in the gallery of the participants, you may see the stuck photo near the start. e.g. here vs here. This photo was from May, but stays at the start.

Thanks

Telephone Challenge 8b - MouseScrappers - Disney Scrapbooking Gallery

what is your sort there is nothing sticky here. The photos in that category are sorted oldest to newest.

what is the actual sort on that specific category?

Let me give you another example, hopefully it is a little clearer:

Here is a link to the photos from one of our members.

The first photo shown (uploaded June 12) was part of the 'telephone' gallery. It is 'stuck' and is not sorted newest to oldest like the other photos shown on this page. The rest of the photos on this page were uploaded after June 16, so the June 12 photo should really be on page two. If I click on the photo options for this photo, I see an 'unstick' option for it.

I have two questions:
1. how do I do a mass 'unstick' as we likely have a few hundred photos like this.

2. how do I stop the bleeding? (how do I prevent future photos added to this category to be 'stuck' by default?)

Thank you

simply unstick the photo.

if you stuck it and never unstuck it and moved it to another category its still sticky

There is no mass unstick you must view a photo and use the photo options stick/unstick link.

Photos are never mass stuck so without knowing what your doing as I posted to begin with I cant say.

when a photo is uploaded there is never a sort set.

Only you as admin can sort photos or if you allow members to have personal albums they can order there album photos but then again they are ordering them so its nothing the program is doing.

Chuck,

I did some more testing, and it appears as though it has nothing to do with the user that uploads the photo (or changing the owner). It's easy to reproduce:

- upload photos to category X
- from the admin page, click on "Order images"
- select category X from the drop down box at top of screen
- change the "position" value for each of the photos in the category
- click "Submit changes"

All the photos are now 'stuck'

How do I prevent them from getting stuck when I use the Order images feature? I am NOT clicking 'make sticky' on any of the photos.

YES as I stated you or the owner would have stuck them

My reply said this and you have just confirmed you as admin are sticking them

simply dont do this if you dont want them stuck. Ordering images is sticking them.

Chuck,

As the developer, I’m sure it’s easy for you to see how ‘sort order’ relates to the ‘stick’ feature behind the scenes. Please understand from my perspective as a user, that this correlation is not as easy to see. All I’m trying to do is sort the images within this category. I have no interest in sticking them to the front of the users’ collection of photos. But I now understand that this is the cause and I will have to find an alternative to doing what we wish to do. I’m guessing there is a field in the database that flags them as stuck, and I would appreciate if you could tell me the name of the field so I can quickly reset them. Regardless, thank you for clarifying how the software works.

well see all photos by default are set to order 99999

That simply means photos have no specific order. when you sticky or sort photos you set the order differently hense the photos are always sorted via mysql by the order 1-99999
