| A category set to display as a gallery
This is one of the features of Photopost:
"PhotoPost standard layout is a Gallery layout which shows all photos uploaded to that category. A Member Gallery shows photos grouped by users which then link to a gallery page of all that users photos in that category (similiar to the Members Gallery, but category specific)."
I've used this for some years, by having our General Family Photos set to Gallery - it means members don't have to wade through others family photos, and instead can click on their own set of images in that catagory as it is set to "gallery".
However, with the current software version and the full blown SEO URLs with the .htaccess in place I've just discovered that this has stopped working.
The gallery still looks the same and shows the correct numbers of images for each user in that gallery - and it is just the links that have gone wrong - if you click on anyones latest image instead of taking you to their images in the gallery for that category it now takes you to their normal full gallery showing all their images, not just the ones for the category they are in.
I don't know if there is something I can alter to get this back how it always was/should be?
Thanks,
Steve

I did a little test there and everything seems to work fine the photos are definately sorted by user.
I guess your referring to the fact that if you go to the cat variable with ppuser it shows all a users photos not just the couple that might be in that cat?
I am not really sure myself how this worked because I never used that feature so off to see an old copy of our software and find out.

Chuck,
It always showed just the photos in the category concerned. It has worked fine for many years.
The description of what it should be doing that I used above between the " quotes is from the Photopost software itself, and it explains it is the same as the members gallery but category specific.
It has just lost the category specific part of what it does.. it shows someone has say 7 photos in that category and everything is fine to that point...but there is no way to view them - if you click on the link to them from the image above the user name you get taken to the full members gallery instead. The actual link seems wrong....so I guess what you are doing in looking at an older version will show what changed.
It is something to do with the new SEO and .htaccess changes I would guess....but it could be anything for all I know...
Thanks for looking into it.
Steve

Can I ask again on this one please?
As far as I can make out, all users of Photopost sites running the current version will not be able to get to the photos in any of their categories that are set to display as a Gallery so it seems a serious problem.
Thanks,
Steve

Chuck,
Sure, I'll send the URL of the Category set to be displayed as a Gallery to your Customer Service address here right now.

Yellow,
No, it is an outstanding problem that this documented feature doesn't work at present.
I'm very sad about it personally, as it is one of the best features Photopost has in my view.
It is ideal for areas where personal or family photos are going to be displayed as it shows them by user, and we used it that way for many many years before the upgrade to v7, it worked fine in v6 etc.

I was searching to try and find an answer to a problem I thought I was having and this one seemed to fit the bill. I had discovered that all of my catagories are displaying as "Member Gallery" rather than "Photo Gallery", even though I have "Photo Gallery" selected for the catagory.
Turns out that it was the user account display setting that was causing the problem. Sorry to alarm you. |

Chuck,
The thread above explains the problem. As you can see, you said you were off to check it out.. but never wrote again on it.
I tested it again when I moved to 7.02 a while back but it was still just the same so I had to turn the feature off on our site. A great shame as it makes our family photo areas pretty poor really.. instead of the very good photopost v6 gallery system we used to use for those.
It is very easy to setup and test, just set one of your categories that has plenty of photos in it to Gallery view, and then go look at it.
The photos will be sorted by user and it almost works just as it always did.. but if you click to see that users 7 photos or whatever in that area you'll find them impossible to view as described above, you get sent off to view the main user gallery and their hundreds of photos in there.
I have to admit I have not written back on most of the threads where you have not fixed items I've reported, once I've made you aware of them I usually don't trouble you again. From the featured photos not having a check for released/not released in them to the Photopost News item for admins shouting out that v7.1 has just been released I've reported them but they are still the same way.
I also mentioned items like the Mobile Phone system being in the setup for PP7 etc.. though it seems not to work and in fact to cause crashes if setup in some ways. You said it was defunct and no longer worked I think.. but it is still there in the 7.02 setup/admin system etc.
In most cases I've done my own work arounds - but in some cases like this one above it is beyond what I can do myself.
Don't worry about me on this one.. tis so long ago I think we've lost any urgency from it for us. For PP though it is one of your best features and well documented in the software.. but simply doesn't work in v7/7.01/7.02 as I think we agreed above many months back. It worked fine in 6.23 I think it was that we used before that.

Steve,
Not sure if this will help you or not, but I was having this same thing and just discovered that there are "Displaay Options" at the bottom of the catagory screen. One of the options is "View". Make sure that is set to "Gallery" and not "Group by Member".
This seemed to correct my problem anyway.

Yellow,
Glad your item is resolved.
If you did turn on the Member Gallery setting in a category because you wanted to use it then do test it.
I just did that again to be certain, and where a user had say 3 photos in that gallery it displayed that fine and all looked great, until you clicked to view them.. then you were taken to his 41 photos in the main member gallery.
It must be some tiny fault as all the code to do this seems to be there. It looks like it may be the SEO system as the link simply seems to take you to the wrong place.

Yellow,
I know about group by member. That does do almost what the gallery setting does, it also fails in the same way though. When I found gallery didn't work fully anymore I tried to switch to that to see if I could work around it.
All of those settings are a major part of what Photopost can do with photos so I hope to be able to view it all normally again at some point.

Can I get the link to your forum, or is it private? Would like to see what you are seeing.

Steve actually this thread stated it moved into email and I do not have a trail to follow here. I know that any physical true bug I have worked on has long since been fixed
The last post said ok I will go check email
try making sure your construct_newppurl function for showgallery.php looks like this Code: Content visible to verified customers only.

Chuck,
You say to check that the code above is in Photopost 7.02's showgallery.php
I checked as requested, and it isn't the code in the current Photopost 7.02, no.
If you mean me to add it you'll of course need to say exactly what lines it should replace or where exactly it should be added.
construct_newppurl is mentioned a number of times in showgallery.php - all surrounded with other code.

Yes our discussion here went to email around the time this was being discussed so it would not be included in 7.02
The code I am referring to above is in pp-inc.php and should be in the upcoming 7.03 bug release.
