SEO: Meta Name & Description

Hello,

I inserted a <meta name="description"> to my headtags.htm to have a meta description for Google on my homepage/indexpage. Now I realize, that this meta description appears on all pages and I have double meta descriptions on my pages.

What can I do? Place the homepage meta description to some other place. Or rename the headtags.htm to headtags.php (how?) and make this entry conditionally?

Case 2: Photopost takes the content of the picture description to fill the tag <meta name="description">. Okay. But if it is a looong description, the meta description gets very long. Is there a chance to limit the meta description string somewhere?

Thank you in advance!

Regards,
Frank

well why not just do something else.

Add these lines to your index.php and place the wording you wish.

Code:

Content visible to verified customers only.

What purpose? Where is the difference?

well your trying to just add a meta description right. well you can simply add that one line and it will place the description you entered under index options for the seo meta tag.

Yes, I am trying to add the meta description and keywords only to the first-/index-/homepage. The other pages are okay.

I can understand this code -->

Code:

Content visible to verified customers only.
But what is the purpose of this one? -->

Code:

Content visible to verified customers only.

Do the first one it doesnt matter the first one also allows you to add a meta keywords line

i would like to do the same but need some guidance on where in the index.php above lines need to be included?

Chuck S November 12th, 2011 02:01 PM

any comments here have since been included in any future revisions we released since this discussion since this topic is one and a half years old.

well, how can i change the meta description and meta keywords of only the index page?

Chuck S November 12th, 2011 06:14 PM

The meta description for the index I beleive is right in the admin index options.

Taner November 13th, 2011 01:40 AM

interesting you are saying this. i have tried this before.

when changing the description it changes the title tag and the description is the still the same as in the forum.

Chuck S November 13th, 2011 09:30 AM

The meta description is whatever you write there of that I am certain it is how it is designed.

Taner November 14th, 2011 12:01 AM

again, i can confirm chaning the description text changes the title tag and not the description.

the description is still getting pulled from the forum description.

Chuck S November 14th, 2011 07:42 AM

what version of the software are you using? I show the description gets added to the forum description meta tag in vb.

Taner November 14th, 2011 02:45 PM

backend shows current version 7.1

Chuck S November 14th, 2011 02:48 PM
