Issues with PP Pro Gallery

This is from one of my staff.

Quote:
I just discovered this when I was searching for a specific members photo gallery:
I go to the member galleries (Member Galleries - Photo Gallery), I click on a certain letter to filter my results (Member Galleries - Photo Gallery) and if there is more than one page of results and I click on any page after page 1, I get redirected out of that specified letters list back to a general list of member galleries (Member Galleries - Photo Gallery).

I tried a couple of different searches for different letters and even one of the numbers. The same thing happened with all of them.

You appear to not be using the correct newest code. Your reporting an old beta bug

My suggestion is to redownload the build replace all your files except config files and make sure to delete your old .htaccess file upload HTACCESS and rename it to .htaccess if your using the new SEO.

Your telling me you have replaced every last file with the current downloaded code as well as the htaccess?

You are indeed reporting an old beta bug.

Pick a letter any letter you can clearly see I think this works.

Chuck,

We have that same fault, I thought I'd seen that so just went and tried again. Selected H for members starting with that name, was told there were 2 pages of them which there are, the first page displayed fine, the 2nd Page of what should have been H names actually started with a Roger and a Simon.

We only changed to 7.01 very recently so of course should have the latest files - the system says the latest were back in January anyway I think. We've never ever run any beta files intentionally and our previous download/install was some years back.

To install vb4 we had to update our databases to MySql 5 of course. Also our PHP to PHP5.

I am viewing the system using IE8. I know that has some problems with some VB4 code like when they use last-child in their code it doesn't work etc.. so I tried Safari on the same pages and got the same problem.

Reeftalk by the way could not show this fault, you have to have more than one page of members on a letter. So if you click a letter for members starting with that letter on reeftalk there is no second page so it can't fail to display it properly.

I hope the feedback helps, please feel free to look at it on our site, it is the main one we have registered with you.

You sure you have renamed the HTACCESS file to .htaccess and before hand deleting any old .htaccess file?

This whole issue resides between the htaccess file and the showmembers.php scripts

It also helps for you to place links here to the site in question.

Chuck,

Some more info in the hope of helping make this simple to crack.

You talk of changes to the htaccess file, we don't run that, I checked with you the other day and you said we didn't need to.

I think this is probably actually some very simple bit of code. You won't see it on your system or on any new install as it only shows when you have more than 12 members on a single letter on the members index. Your site doesn't have that and like yours my site works just fine with under 12 users on a single letter.

Anyway... on to hopefully a solution...

If I choose H from the member list to only show members starting with H the link I go to is this one:

/photopost/showmembers.php?sl=h

Works fine every time and shows first 12 members starting with H.

The No 2 page link under those members is linking to this:

/photopost/showmembers.php?cat=500&page=2

That is wrong and the problem. It takes you back to the full members list and not just those starting with H.

I tried making up a likely looking link and entered this URL....

/photopost/showmembers.php?sl=h&page=2

Worked perfectly and is all that is needed to fix this whole problem I think.. just a minor change to the link being produced.

I've tried to find where these links are created and it seems likely to be here (though this is a total guess and I could be totally wrong :

pp-inc.php(2063): $posternav .= "<a href=\"" . construct_newppurl( "showmembers.php", array('cat' => $cat, 'page' => 1) ) ."\">1</a> ... ";

pp-inc.php(2089): $posternav .= "<a href=\"" . construct_newppurl( "showmembers.php", array('cat' => $cat, 'page' => $p) ) ."\">$thispage</a>";

Is there a simple change that can be made to make it work as normal again?

Thanks for any help you can give, it would be great to get this working again.

Chuck,

This fault is in the current code so you can create it on your own test sites simply by taking any member letter up to over 12 entries. So adding a few members as H1 H2 H3 etc...and perhaps adding a photo entry for each.

I just Googled for Photopost sites and all large sites I can find show this problem. The first 2 large sites that came up are detailed below incase it helps somehow.

Member Galleries - FlowerChat Photo Gallery

That list of members starting with F works fine for the first 12 members but the link for page 2 shows the problem: Member Galleries - FlowerChat Photo Gallery

Another example is:

AIRBRUSH GALLERY - AIRBRUSH ARTWORK GALLERY

That works fine but their page 2 link is to: AIRBRUSH GALLERY - AIRBRUSH ARTWORK GALLERY

I downloaded the current pp7.01 last night and confirmed it is the exact ZIP that we are running now. I even did a file compare on our pp-inc v the one in the file and it was an exact copy of the current code.

Hope this all helps you nail this problem as it isn't a major one but it does make all the larger sites running the latest code look a little poor when users encounter it.

Steve

Chuck,

Tis kind of you to offer but we wouldn't be able to give out that info. I think it great that you do often drop into sites and help out folks on a one to one basis like that and if it was my personal site I'd probably jump at the offer.

Your membership records of course show which site we are allowed to use 7.01 on so you can see the problem live there, though it is just the same problem as seen on the other examples you can view from links in this thread.

I think I've given every bit of info that might help in this thread already but if you need to know anything else please just ask.

well thats strange since I have personally been on the back end of the 420 sites multiple times so until I have the right setup to test out what your saying it will take awhile for a responce or resolution then.

Chuck,

We have not given Photopost ftp access in over 3 years and over half a dozen upgrades, therefore I don't see any possibility in you knowing what is going on over here.

Shall we pass this onto Michael?

Michael does not do support. As stated if no one wants to give our company access to where the issue exists then you must wait until I can actually setup up a testing ground with enough content to try and replicate the actual issue. Its much faster when I can actually go right to where the issue is and try some things.

You can try removing this code in showmembers.php and test but thats only a guess as thats where I would have started.

Code:
