Scrapster,
I'm just another Photopost owner.. thought I'd look to see if I could provide any feedback.
When I look at your member Margie's gallery that you said would not sort this looks just like a problem I also had.
I set it to sort by date and to show 90 images a page. That looked a mess.. but I then started looking from the bottom of page one and tried from there going backwards... the last 17 images are sorted aren't they. I looked at page 2, and all 90 seem sorted fine, and I expect all others are..
So, I figure only the first 73 images are in what looks like a strange order. On my system I had exactly the same thing with the first 28 on one of my users.
He had used the ability within albums to put some images in a certain order. A side effect of that is to turn on sticky and to make every image in the albums where that setting has been used turn to sticky, and list at the top of all sorts.. all 73 images.
The solution you can put into effect is to take those albums out of the order they are in.. in my case the member did it themself and hey presto everything sorted.
To prove to yourself this is the problem simply go to one of the images listing at the top and look at the sticky/unsticky option.. if it is offering to make the image unsticky then it means it is stuck.
I really hope this is helpful.. I'm just attempting to help.
Longer term it would be ideal if PP did not use the same sticky option for being sticky and for ordering things inside albums, as the effects are unexpected/unwanted.
Steve

Yes this is as I have posted before the whole disporder field. A user can sort photos in admins and then if you move those photos to categories etc those are shown before any others.
What I did on my site is issue a global update to set disorder back to 99999
That resets all the photo sorting but you might not want to do that.
There are various angles I am looking at in the coding like I know for me if I take a url like this Chuck S Gallery - ReefTalk Gallery
The sorting does not work all the time but if I change the cat variable from 500 to all it works - ReefTalk Gallery
So I am trying to find the common denominator

Chuck,
With the images I looked at the first 73 did not sort and all the rest did. So on that area it seems to be the sticky thing at work. Even if that site set its sticky areas back to normal the end users could have changed dozens of albums back to how they want them in days, so as long as those 2 things clash it will display with many photos stuck at the start on most PP sites.
I thought the system was that photos in albums did not display in those sorted pages of photos, the albums are up above them and can be viewed one album at a time.. but there isn't a great need for them to also sort and display below themselves in a user gallery - and I felt they didn't used to do that. Not including albums in that sort would anyway take out that whole problem/clash.
I can't see what images are sticky with a normal ID on other sites so it is hard to confirm what is causing what really.
I just wanted to try and add a helpful thought for this thread anyway.. and we've run me out of ideas now..
Steve

yeah I know there are many factors to consider when one talks about sorting. I am going through on my site debugging queries trying to see what happens when it doesnt work to track it down but the most important thing is to find the common denominator and everybody says something different.
For me I know if I had an issue with sorting if I changed the cat in the url to say all not 500 it works fine.

(So that photos that are in albums aren't displayed in the user gallery. The would need to click on the album to view those photos instead.)

We're using version 7.01.
Have some of these issues been solved in 7.02?

Does 7.02 hide the photos in a member's personal album so that they don't appear in the user’s main gallery (as Steve described above)?

Do you have a member in your gallery that uses albums - so I can check to see how it displays?

we are using 7.02.
Search using the seo change as noted earlier in this thread DOES fix the search order to latest if you view "by 7 days", etc.
BUT the member galleries are still sorted mumbo jumbo and as mentioned then interfers and changes the postbit that is already set up we have for a link back to the gallery in our forums.

any closed issues here would be resolved by the latest code which is 7.03 released months ago.
