How do I fix this child-display problem?

Here's the issue:

On the gallery homepage, I have listed:

Banknotes
|_Europe
|_Africa
|_etc...

If you click on "Banknotes", you get this:

Home->Banknotes

Europe
Eastern Europe
Northern Europe
and the rest of the subcats of europe
Africa
<subcats of africa>
and on so.

If I make depth of children to display 0 on BANKNOTES then it is fine on the page above (e.g. home->banknotes) except that on the homepage it will only show:

Banknotes
with no subcats.

Any ideas?

Global cat depth in index options in admin is a global setting. The category cat depth is an individual catdepth that overrides the global setting thats why things display like you are suggesting because your overriding the global setting because that categories catdepth is not empty.

Right, but if I choose global as 0, and the main category as 1 (e.g. Banknotes) it shows up right on the homepage correct, but if you click on 'Banknotes' it wil show everything.

Banknotes - Coin Database <- should only show 'Europe, Africa, etc'.

If I set it to 0, on the main page (e.g Coin, Banknote, Postal Order, World Coins, and other images of numismatic items. - Coin Database) it only shows 'banknotes' and no continents under it.

It's almost as if you shouldn't be able to go to this page, period: Banknotes - Coin Database

See what I mean? I know it's confusing to explain, sorry.

Correct because banknotes is catdepth 1 so it will display catdepth of 1

Catdepth of 0 means display nothing but the that parent category.

Catdepth of 1 means display the parent with its children

Just like usergroup permissions are global and you set individual category upload or commenting permissions they override the global permissions.

The category display does the same thing.

Right, but what I am saying is no matter what I do, I can't achieve the results I want.

On this page, it is fine now: Coin, Banknote, Postal Order, World Coins, and other images of numismatic items. - Coin Database

But if you go here: Banknotes - Coin Database it shows sub cats of sub cats, even though it is set for 0 on those categories.

For instance, I have 0 set for 'Europe', but it still shows them all on the link directly above.

If I set 'Banknotes' to 0, everything works great, except the main page (Coin, Banknote, Postal Order, World Coins, and other images of numismatic items. - Coin Database) will no longer show the categories. So it's either one or the other no matter what I do.

Just out of curiousity have you set the catdepth of Europe etc to 0

It really is just about setting cat depths correctly for what you want

Global 0

Banknotes 1

Europe and all parents of children to 0

Try that out

Still does the same thing:

Banknotes - Coin Database

Should only show the countries, it's showing the regions... 'Europe' is set to 0, but it shows all the children.

yeah glad it helped but your pictures as I noted shows two different gallery products and two different vb versions so you may get close but your not gonna get identical.
