SEO in 7.01

just upgraded to 7.01 from 6.23

when i change Use Spider-friendly URLs? from "spider" to "seo", the thumbs don't link to the photos anymore, i get sent to the home page instead.

is this a photopost issue or a permissions issue on my end?

I can confirm that seo works fine as long as you upload the HTACCESS file to your photopost root and rename it to .htaccess like Chuck says.

my systems administrator says, "Your going to change your search engine placement by doing this."

is this true?

if so, can anyone explain the procedure to me?

thanks.

SEO urls allow your pages to get indexed faster and better by search engines. You have the option to run no seo, the spider friendly urls or true SEO urls.

Our programs always used either straight urls or spider friendly urls. This is merely the next evolution and your site should get indexed better in my opinion but your free to use which scenerio works for you

so then all of my BIG PHOTO pages are gone right?

so this just basically removed all of those urls that were being indexed by the search engines?

is this correct?

No they are not gone. You just need to ensure you have the option to use the popup window in show photo options to yes

well search engines do not like duplicate content they will ding you dropping you down for having tons of different urls to say one page.

Now there is one url period which they like. I beleive Michael said on his test site he saw an 800% increase in traffic etc with the use of SEO urls.

how long on average did it take to see this 800% increase?
days? weeks? months?

are there links to these discussions by chance?

we are at alexa rating of 35,777 right now and cannot afford to lose rankings for months.

thanks.

You can do whatever you wish. There are no copies of private discussions I am just relaying what I had heard

Stay with the spider urls or use seo

so you are saying that the spiders can still see the same urls of the big photo pages that were here before the upgrade?

Shall I contact Michael directly or can you answer the question without blowing it off?

Thanks.

I already answered that there is only one url for a category or photo. Thus if you want to see big images you need to set the option to use the big popup window.

what I am saying about seo or spider is its your choice to use either. There is nothing more anyone can tell you about stats as there have been no formal tests. I have stated Michael said over the last few months running the new seo he saw about an 800% increase in traffic using the seo urls. Thats just his personal test site and his results.

People's studies and tests and results will vary depending on there site. How effective spider urls are working for them or whether they just used regular urls. How busy the site is normally. There are so many factors.

The only thing any can tell you is in general using SEO urls should be the best option out of the three options to get your site indexed.

popups are enabled, are you saying that the spiders will see the same exact urls, even though they are not pages now?

A url to your photo should be converted redirected automatically to the SEO url
