vB4 + PPPro Integrated Styling Issues

The more I go through the more I find. I realize some of the things I can change with integrated styling are limited, since they will also affect the forum. And they seem to affect the control panel, as well. That should be completely separate, IMHO. So I guess I'm sneaking in a suggestion while I'm at it.

I found a way to alter some things to my liking. I added or changed the assigned id/class in their respective template to something not in use, then added that new selector to the additional.css template in the forum.

Not sure how far I can go with that without affecting more things than I may realize. In any case, here's the current fix-it dossier:

Problem #1. Per the three examples attached, the thumbnail filmstrip extends beyond the desired width of the showphoto page. The first shows the filmstrip in action, which continues the page being too wide through the Photo Details section (2), then wraps up back where it's supposed to when it's comment time (3). I've been through the showphoto and thumb-film templates, but changing the table widths doesn't seem to help. Unless I wasn't targeting the right ones, of course, or there's something else entirely I should be checking for.

Problem #2 My Photo Options menu is terrible. Per the attached example, I didn't even know there were supposed to be options there until I hovered. Some don't have text at all, just icons. Where and what can I customize to change these without affecting forum popups?

Problem #3 Not so much of a problem per se as a desired change. The gallery posts/comments are formatted with postbit legacy (the old layout) of vBulletin. I'm using the new layout, which places the user info at the top of posts rather than to the side. How can I make the gallery match?

Problem #4 Again, not so much of a problem as a desired change. The breadcrumb icon for the forum displays at the Gallery without any accompanying text and it links back to the forum. If I were to set it to display none, no breadcrumb at the forum either. What I would ideally like is a matching breadcrumb in the same style for the gallery, instead of the current gallery breadcrumb, which looks like another category. However, if that isn't doable, I'd settle for eliminating the forum breadcrumb from the gallery without eliminating it from the forum.

I think that's all I've got for now. LOL! Appreciate the help.

Your stuff is not in order with the attachments so let me take a stab here.

1. You have the option in admin show photo options to turn the next prev images off or on as well as showing 1 or 3 columns and top bottom left and right so I am sure you will find a combo that works with your restricted width. That is why there are so many options to that one feature

2. In show photo options in admin the option to use images in the menu set to NO.

3. You would need to actually edit the showphoto template the html where the comments are displayed and alter to your liking.

4. we dont alter forum code in any manner so thats why we have our own breadcrumb. Basically we just show the forum header footer and stylesheet over our application. I could not tell you how to alter the forum breadcrumb.

Apparently not enough options to have thumbnails AND a main image on a "body" area 950px wide. 1 column does nothing to improve things. I have to turn thumbnails off entirely.

Why isn't there an owner's manual or user guide to the software? And you're kidding about the attachments, right? They're named and numbered perfectly for the two problems to which they correspond, and they go across left to right on my screen in that very order.

I will play around with the showphoto template as far as using postbit vs. postbit legacy. I'm sure you would know in two seconds what I should change, but I guess you'd prefer I try to figure it out myself. The software, if truly integrated for vB4, should already have that option built-in to match.

So never mind the breadcrumb then. I should have known. Lastly, the Post Options menu was barely improved by removing the images. The background colors of the popup are still mismatched and half the options are missing text. What else can be done to fix that? My forum menus don't look that way.

You must have a style issue with your menu like white text on white background. I would have to actually investigate the vb 4 some to probally respond because we coded our application to a default vb4 style so when users start changing something and we are talking a vb style variable and its all new to us that takes a bit. The menu option looks fine using the default vb style.

I was not kidding about the order of your attachments. Example your second thing was about your menu but thats attachment 4 not 2. Attachments 2 and 3 appear to have nothing to do with any of the questions you have asked which is what really threw me about the attachments.

Here is a manual with basic operational tips

You know what, Chuck? I'm beyond frustrated with this software and the last thing I need is to be told my attachments don't make sense when they are clearly named, explained, and numerically referenced in the post itself. Or to have the obvious pointed out, like about the menu, even the admin panel "HINT" in my first communication with you.

All I wanted to know is what can I do to solve the issue(s). Yet it seems more important to you to make me feel like an idiot than to help address said issues. WHATEVER. I'm done with this. I'm going to un-integrate my forum and gallery. If that doesn't work the way I want, I will be uninstalling PhotoPost and submitting a refund request. This software is more trouble than it seems to be worth.

No one is trying to make you feel like an idiot and I am sorry you that way. I merely stated that attachments 2 and 3 dont seem to have anything to do with the points you have brought up. Now attachment 1 clearly matches point 1. Attachment 4 clearly matches point 2.

I have answered all your points and points 3 and 4 as stated would involve you modifying your code to suit your needs. We support our software as it is written and do not assist with code modifications much the same as vbulletin. I am sorry if you dont agree with that but the support questions you asked were clearly answered in a timely manner and thoroughly.

Thumbs up

Glad we got past all that in the Special Characters thread.

I wanted to post an update about the Photo Options menu in case it helps anyone else.

In my gallery universe, it seems the menu is pulling from two different forum popupbody selectors to combine into that hideous mess pictured above. I'm sure there's a better way to do this, and I may look into it further when time permits. For now, the following has worked to make the menu uniform and legible.

In the showphoto template, look for the following code:

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
In the div above the list, add the following:

style="border: none;"

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
Add an id to the list. I'm using photo_options_menu.

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
Go to the forum admin panel and edit the additional.css template to include the following:

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
Substitute your colors and other variables to suit.

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks, Chuck. Me, too. It's weird how it's doing a half-and-half kinda thing, but this worked beautifully to solve it, at least until I can track down the other half.

yeah well you know its hard to really say anything without actually seeing a site and as previously stated all we really do is write the integration based on a default vbulletin.

I do know styling issues can get pretty difficult but basically your attachment shows whatever text link was white against a white background I beleive which is why you could not see certain options. We use basically the default vbulletin popup menu classes.

I did an integration with default vBulletin 4.1.8 styling and the Photo Options menu was mostly blank when it was selected (I spent 2 hours looking for 'edit photo', but couldn't see it unless you hovered over it). I used this tuning of the additional.css and it fixed my problem.

This discussion is mute as of PP8 since we do not use the drop down menu.
