Thumbs down SEO URL clean up...

Hi,

I am in process of upgrading some of my installations of PP and have some questions, concerns and ideas... but first SEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SEO URL feature is great but it can be even better!

Look at this:

http://www.autotalk.com/pictures/

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
Whats with the #s in the Url? Is it possible to keep the url clean? I have a name: Auto Shows & Events, I don't know how that 26 got in there.

/pictures/auto-shows-events/ would look much much better!

For PICTURE url, its
Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
Again, too many #s and not orderly in the URLs.

Is it possible to make the url consistent with the category layout?

h**p://www.autotalk.com/pictures/infiniti/g-coupe/2010-infiniti-g-coupe-6666/

*6666 being the photo ID in digits?

Browse rest of the website the URLs are consistent and smooth, no funny digits where they shouldn't be.

Thank you

I guess everybody is "cool" with the way SEO urls are done except me.

Also, there is another problem:

I was under the impression that when you visit a category or a photo, the title of the category or the photo is automatically parsed into the meta description and keywords?

2009 Suzuki GSX-R600 - Cars & Automobiles Picture Gallery
2-Wheel Stunts - Cars & Automobiles Picture Gallery

Not sure what your #s is suppose to mean.

But to answer your questions on how things work. The p u m or g variables are the ones that tell what the rewrite url is. you have to have something to rewrite too. The photo id cat id userid etc are the ones after those one letter variables. The examples you gave where not quite right.

The urls from what I see are consistent. Example the urls are formatted like this

viewing a photo

gallery url / category name / p photoid - photo title or name .html

viewing a category

gallery url / g category id - category name .html

viewing a members profile

gallery url / m member id - member name .html

viewing a members gallery

gallery url / u member id - member name .html

The content meta is added to a meta tags etc however I think on vb integration it might need to be reworked because there are two description and keywords tags ones from vb and ones from photopost.

Maybe adding the lines in bold where noted in pp-inc.php in the printheader function

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.

Chuck,

Thanks for the explanation.

The meta description/keyword mod for pp-inc.php only works on showphoto page, all other pages of the gallery it doesn't add category name.

Regards

Unhappy

I do not see that... I am searching the source code of the gallery page and its not there.

Its just inserting a "," there and nothing else, rest is just keywords and description from vbulletin.

Thanks

It is suppose to show the category description. I suppose if you want you could change the code in showgallery.php to do whatever you wish.

No keywords are photo keywords so there are no keywords on the showgallery script.
