Show all photos from subcategories

I'd like to have a nice tightly organized set of categories, but that takes a lot of the fun away from being able to browse through the higher level categories. At present, it looks like you'd have to go right to the very lowest categories and browse the albums individually.

Is there a way in any category, you get the list of subcategories and underneath can view (a slideshow) or browse all the photos from the subcategories within it?

So if I have a cat structure:

Food -> Fruit -> Bananas -> Lady finger

If I was viewing the fruit category, I would see all images from all the subcats (including all photos from bananas, lady finger, etc).

I beleive if your viewing a category and it has subcategories the recent random and most popular image blocks show children cat images as well as the main cat or are you talking something else here?
