Sub-Categories in Categories Index Another dumb question..... Ive seen in other photopost gallery applications where sub-categories are set-up under main categories but they dont show up when viewing the main index page...you have to click the main cat to see the sub-cats. How is this done? Also, most members automatically load to "member galleries" regardless of subject matter because its simple and effortless. Are there admin edits to move albums from one category to another? Thanks B=0 |
You could create a top level category that contains images then create subcats for that top level cat. In index options in admin set the catdepth to 0 thats it. It will only show the top level cats. |
This is in fact one solution to the issue, however not quite like Im after. Sent email earlier with example provided. Thanks |
Okay well thats how things operate so not sure what I can tell you different but will check email. |
Hey Thanks Chuck I believe your email "turned the lights on" so to speak.... I believe the problem here is that what I have as "categories" should be "top level categories" for things to work as we have discussed. So, that being established...can I edit my cats into top level cats? |
sure in the cat parent select box select NONE |
What I have currently in the admin is: member galleries [top level cat] main [heading] [1] then 7 cats [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] I think what needs to happen is the [7] reg cats need to become top level cats. The heading "main" has a delete button. If I delete "main" does this make the lower [7] cats into top level cats? Does this make sense? |
No that will delete everything including subcats. You need to edit each subcat and in the cat parent dropdown select NONE and hit save. |

I deleted "main"...it didnt delete everything else and looks to have made the others top level. I simply cannot figure out how to config sub-cats to look like the example I provided. All parent drop-downs are set to NONE. I add a sub-cat but I still dont get the correct config. I also dont want "recent", "most popular", or "random" to show under each sub-cat. Arggggghhhhh LOL :p |
well if you dont want features to show on cats and photos pages then under show photos options in admin the option to show features on the page set to NO. As far as the categories like previously stated once you make those cats top level you then define subcats for your parent cats. Then you can hit the parent cat and get a list of subcats I will show an example My gallery it setup more like what you had but lets try and follow this A community photo gallery - ReefTalk Gallery Obviously I list subcats depth to 1 but anyway lets pretend it was 0 and the only thing that showed was reeftalk gallery and members gallery. If I click reeftalk gallery I get this ReefTalk Gallery - ReefTalk Gallery That is the exact nature of what you saw on the other site click the parent and get the subcats list. |

Im going to monkey with it to determine for sure. :D Quote:
Again, Im going to work with the setting above to see if it resolves anything. Thanks, have a great Thanksgiving and I'll post again if this doesnt work. :o |
Well like I said you never had subcategories defined under any of the categories you want as top level categories so unless you do that you will never have it like you pointed out. |
With your expert assistance we got this wrapped and looking pretty good if I do say so myself :) Another thing I cant seem to find [and Ive looked]... Now that we've successfully set up the sub-cats the right way there are a few photos that were uploaded previously that I would now like to move into their correct prospective categories....how to do this? Move a photo from member galleries to another sub-cat that is more appropriate? |
View the photo hit edit photo or the move/delete option and submit the photo to a new category. |
