Help - Exif

Hi I know you had a lot of questions about getting jhead to work and I have looked through all the topics, but now after more than 10 hours Iīm nearly getting crazy

First I thougt it had something to do with permisions or some problems on the server, and I tried all different combinations to get it to work. It takes a long time because you have to upload a new photo everytime you tried anything new because it would only extract the exif data under upload. And Im sure the photo I uploaded all the time have Exif data!
But then suddenly I saw that it had extracted exif data from some of the members photos - so YES then it must be working! But no I canīt get it to work now.

I tried all possible combinations of server paths. And today I talked with my server host and they told me that my path to my path the home directory of account is not the same as the one where I have installed Photopost???
Is that possible?

In PhotoPost Admin Panel it shows that my server path to ex my data directory is: /hermes/web05/b1707/xx.xx/data/

But they told my that my path to path the home directory of my account on the server is: /home/users/web/b1707/xx.xx/

Is there something I get total wrong here?

Please help itīs driving me crazy and it is very important for me to could extract exif data because it is a site for photographers.

Thanks in advance
Klaus

well without posting an error its hard to respond here!!!

You can look under phpinfo in admin to see your server path and make sure it matchs the paths in admin global and storage options.

feel free to post a url and test login but again the things to check here are permissions and then to make sure the path for your data and uploads directories are correct. You do that by doing what I posted above.

Ok Chuck you can use this:
digitalphoto.geek.nz - Main Index
Username:test
password: 123456

You can see a photo here where the exif data are working!
digitalphoto.geek.nz - Motor Bikes

My data and uploads directories should be correct.

DSCN0516 - ReefTalk Gallery

well there is a photo that has exif

Now your site

DSCN0516.JPG (exceeds filesize limit)

Hard to test if exif works or not when filesizes are restricted. remember if users resize a photo to meet your expectations exif is stripped

Now as previously noted if uploads work and you have display exif set to yes and you have the proper path to jhead on your server set in global options it should work that is unless jhead has an issue on your server.

No exif data is not automaticly stripped because you resize a photo, it's depend on how you save it.
And Im not sitting waiting for memebers to upload a photo with exif data when I try to get it to work. I have of course a photo myself with the right filesize and WITH exif data!
But just for you, I will move the test account to a usergroup without file size limit so you can try with your own photo.
Thanks

I am merely saying if your users are resizing there own photos to get below your size restrictions.

Fatal error: Allowed memory size

You might want to try this tweak. I get a blank white page trying to upload to your site.

No Chuck the exif dat it still not automaticly stripped because the members resize their own photo, it depends on how they save. Nothing happens with the exif data under the resize operation itself.

Maybe you was to fast to upload, I moved the test account to a new usergruoup without filelimit just after I wrote my last message.

What tweak?

Upload and then things go blank

Here is another one do you understand what they are saying here? I think they are all clear. larger file uploads cause php to shut down. You must give php more memory therefore you edit the pp-inc.php file and add the line as noted in the numerous threads here.

Hi Chuck
But that have nothing to do with my problems with Exif data!
And as you wrote earlier "filesizes are restricted" so that´s not a problem on my site. I was only because you tried to upload a photo that was to big.

But how can I get further with my exif problems?

Klaus maybe you just dont understand what I am saying. If I cant upload then maybe others cant which is why twice I have asked you to apply what I posted. That way I can upload and assist you further.

However this is really all I can say about exif which has been posted before. If your photos upload but no exif is extracted then there can only be one of two things wrong.

1. exif is not set to extract in the settings.

2. your jhead install is not working properly.

Chuck Im perfectly understanding what you are saying, but why do you HAVE to upload a phot there are bigger than the upload limit????
And donīt tell me again that strip the exif data if you resize the photo. If it does then itīs because you do it wrong!
Of course if people are trying to upload a phot there are to big then they should get an error message and not a blank screen.

But back to what itīs all about - my problem with exif data.
1. Exif are set to extract the exif data.
2 And yes that exactly the problem and what Im desperatly trying to get help with (I have used 3 days now!)

I would have to say your jhead is not working correctly on the server. I uploaded the same photo to my install you can see it has exif info. I uploaded it to yours and it does not.
