Watermark Photos for Unregistered users Only

Is there a way to just watermark photos for users that aren't registered (or part of a certain group)?

This would be handy if you have a pay to remove watermark feature. So if a user paid a subscription they would be added to the subscriber group and now they are able to download pictures without the watermark.

If this is available, could I get the dummies guide on how to set it up. I imagine it would be linked somehow to the on-the-fly watermark, which I have enabled and it appears to be working. But I don't see anything in the categories or groups about watermark.

Thanks

well only permanent watermarking can be set by usergroup. You can not use on the fly watermarking. Turn that off then turn on in watermark settings to say yes and set the correct server path to the watermark file. Then very simply under admin edit categories in the usergroups permissions at the bottom of the category permissions set the groups you wish to have an overlay by checking them off.

Thanks for the response.

I am a bit confused though. I thought permanent watermarking (not on-the-fly) will add the watermark for said group (example: unregistered users) but didn't I read that was a permanent change to the photo so it doesn't matter if registered user logs in and doesn't have watermark applied to that category..

Ahh.. I would have to have two copies of the picture or pictures.

one in a category that is for unregistered
another in a seperate cateogry for registered.

unregistered category would have the setting to permanently apply the watermark.

registered category would have the setting to not apply a watermark.

Is this correct? Does it take two copies to accomplish what I am trying to do here?

Thanks

The watermark is put on a picture based on the permissions of the usergroup of the user who uploads the photo not the one who views it so it all depends on what your trying to do. I am not clear on what your trying to do based on your response above.

Sorry I wasn't very clear.

My goal is...

If you aren't in the group (paid_member) then you will receive watermarks on all pictures. But if you are a paying member then you are put in the paid_member group and now the watermark image is magically removed and you are allowed to download and use the photos.

Not sure how to do this. It appears the only control for watermarking images is either all or nothing using the on-the-fly watermarking OR by category which means if a photo is in a certain category then it will be watermarked for those certain groups (which sounds like it would work for me).

So if I had a category called girls and I want all the pictures to be watermarked for non-registered users, banned users, etc.. I would set it up like the attached. Turn off on-they-fly watermarking and turn on watermark, set the path (like /home/public_html/gallery/mwgwatermark.png) and set which corner you would like the watermark to appear.

Now if the above is true, does the watermark only happen when I upload pictures from that point? So it will not be applied to anything that is already in the gallery?

Nothing is going to do what you want in the program.

On the fly is always on

Permanent watermarking watermarks photos by users usergroup watermarking permissions

It is not applied based on what group is viewing a photo.
