Usergroup access issues

I'm trying to make it where all my usergroups can see my gallery threads and thumbnails... but only certian ones can view the full images. The problem is that when I unselect usergroups from the access permissions area... it makes it where those usergroups can't see the forums at all. I want them to still be able to see the forums and thumbnails, despite not having access to the full images. Is there a way I can do this cause I can't seem to figure it out?

You need to set under edit categories for each category which groups can view those categories. Additionally you can restrict guests to only seeing the cats and thumbnails and when trying to view a large image get a you must register message by setting the option under registration option to have guests register to see images.

I did that, but that doesn't give me the results I'm looking for. If I have user group X for example... and select that only they can view the images in said category, then that category will dissappear for everyone else. I don't want that to happen. I want the people that aren't in the usergroup that has viewing permissions for a category to get a message like the non registered visitors do when they try to click on an image. For ex: if you're a registered member, but not in usergroup X, then you would get the message just like the non registered visitors... but saying you must be part of usergroup X to view this image.

That simply is not how it works. You give users permission to view or not. Anything else would require you to modify code.

I don't have a problem modifying the code, I just need someone to tell me what I would need to modify.

You are free to post in the code mod forums THE MOD FORUM. The modification I can tell you would surround showphoto.php since thats the file that shows the large photo.
