Problem with categories acting as forums

I'm having a problem with setting up my categories. All of my categories are acting as forums, and I want to be able to select whether I want a category to act as a forum or not. How do I do this, because nothing I'm trying is working?

If you want a category to act as a category meaning it does not contain data but you assign other categories to it edit the category and set contains thumbs to NO.

Yeah, I finally figured that out. I just had to play around with the options a bit till I got it.
