Set a thumbnail for a Category without Photos

Is it possible to assign a thumbnail to a Cat if that Cat doesn't have any thumbnails in it? As in I have a a bunch of Sub cats below it, which contain pictures, but not the Cat itself.

Not without moving a photo there tagging it then moving it back to the category it was in before.

Thanks for the quick reply. However I did that, moved a picture then made it "index thumb" and moved it back, now I get "missing thumbnail" (see All Photos & Images - Malcolm in the Middle Voting Community - Gallery)

Any ideas?
