Watermark Quality

I am using GD2 and I'm watermarking my images with slightly transparent 24bit PNG. It works fine, but I notice the image quality is far from close to the original PNG's quality. Is there a way to make sure upon upload, the image quality on the watermark is not decreased? I've already set the quality to 100% when uploading the image and resizing. Thanks!

The watermark should be full transparency IMO but the watermark is automatically resized as needed when the image is processed.

I've got the size of the image at 640 x 480 and the maximum size of the image allowed in photopost is 640 x 480 so there should be no resizing. Also, to my knowledge, the watermark should not get resized right? It should remain the original size and simply show up on the photo where designated... The quality is just bad.

If the watermark is not larger than the image it should be okay but then again hard to say anything without seeing examples if everything but as I said your watermark should be transparent to be best quality.
