How do I stop Registered Users from Deleting Photo Albums?

My settings are set to not allow members to delete their own photos, however it seems they are able to delete entire albums of photos?

How do I stop this?

Thank you.

You can stop users from deleting photos in categories sure by not letting them move delete photos under admin. However users are still allowed to manage their personal albums anyway they choose. Thus if they delete there personal album any photos under that are deleted. This would be the desired action since personal albums are totally under a users control. If you do not want them to create albums which are outside your control then under admin edit usergroups set allow albums to no.

i am very confused.

is it possible for members to use albums, but have their ability to delete ANY photos restricted?

also, what does "Assign Albums to Cats?" do?

Members have complete control of personal albums and their photos just like you have complete control of your galleries categories. As I explained this is the correct action here members can delete any albums they create and as such any photos in them would be deleted. They can not delete public content in your categories you setup as those are restricted by the permissions you set.

Assign albums to categories means a member can place their album to be shown under one of your categories.

Hi Chuck, I've been having a tough time of late with members deleting their albums and then saying "Oh I didn't know that it would delete all the pictures as well"
Now I understand that these albums are in their control and that's fine with me. I just wonder if there was a way to either add a bigger warning if they choose to delete an album or better still administrators approval for this action to absolutely make sure they understand the consequence of such deletion..... Yesterday a member deleted an album thinking that the pictures would be ok.... he has lost over 1700 pictures and comments.

The message they are given is very direct and to the point this is the message. I tested this and this is the message I was given when deleting a test album.

You're about to delete the album called "test", and ALL PHOTOS AND COMMENTS within the album.

Hi Chuck... I'm not criticizing the message... to most it is a pretty accurate description of the events ahead...This is defiantly not a failure of Photo Post... more of a user problem (we call them picnic problems "Problem In Chair Not In Computer). However a lot of the members we are having problems with are in the age group of 80s and 90s... so to be fair they probably don't realise what impact this will have on their pictures.... Apart from that we are also having other members complaining that if a member deletes their album then the comments posted beneath the pictures are lost. Now we have a situation where as the comments belong to other members and the picture to someone else.
Normally I wouldn't worry about the comments as they are often chit chat. But in some cases, like the last lot that was deleted had an awful lot of historical research collected and committed to the comments of the pictures. When the album owner deleted his album (apparently unaware of the consequences, his fault we all agree) he wiped out 6 months of local historic research.
I'm aware that we could take ownership of the pictures... but frankly that's big brother stuff. I'm simply exploring a further stage before the album and contents are completely destroyed.
Perhaps admin approval for deletion... or upon deletion move to option. All I'm trying to achieve is that the member fully understands the consequence if his/her action and if possible selvage the comments that belong to the other members...
It seems the best compromise given the situation. That way the personal albums can stay that way.... and the owner still has the option to delete... but with a safety measure in place.
My understanding from one of my administrators is that this was a real problem on Ships Nostalgia (they use their gallery in much the same way as we do... historical pictures and comments)... they, as I understand it now... Have an administration approval for album deletions.

Feel free to place suggestions for the software in the suggestions forum. I am only responding based on how the software is coded and operates.

was this suggestion considered in the last upgrade?

There was never any suggestions placed in the suggestions forum for the developer to see as I see it. I scanned back over the last year or so of suggestions and nothing that is except for the suggestion you just made a minute ago.
