| RSS Feed Not Completely Compatible
I am waiting for access to the forums again but this won't solve my problem for an otherwise excellent product I've been using for years. Chuck will solve this one so if you're using Wordpress and image feeds, don't worry...
I'm using wordpress and simplepie to show images in an RSS feed. Works perfectly for almost everything, such as pulling from this link: NASA Image of the Day
Photopost's RSS feed provides me with the problems these people are having - and ONLY from Photopost's feeds, even from your reeftalk site. There must be some incompatibility that I'm not picking up on that is causing the problem. RSS Image Widget | Zack Design Interestingly enough - this feed words from Yahoo: Yahoo! News: Entertainment News
The first link has no picture and causes an error - the same one, saying there is no picture. But the other ones do have pictures and they work fine.
Looking and comparing URLs of the photos that work: From Reeftalk that don't work: http://www.reeftalk.com/gallery/data...aa6f1bd3ec.png http://www.reeftalk.com/gallery/data/500/thumbs/003.JPG From Yahoo and NASA that DOES work: http://d.yimg.com/img.news.yahoo.com...b2addb.jpg?v=2 http://d.yimg.com/img.news.yahoo.com...33ad3d.jpg?v=2 http://www.nasa.gov/images/content/3...93_516-387.jpg
------------------------
So I'm wondering - could it be a permissions issue? The script seems to be trying to store images in an ".spc" file in the cache directory and I wonder if Photopost isn't allowing you to do so in the data directory, e.g. some anti-leeching measure. Apparently some other people online have encountered the same problem. This can eventually be removed to a support area.

More research shows the rss feed from reeftalk breaking up but not for other rss feeds. The picture isn't showing and instead I'm seeing the actual URL being spat out in the reader. Seems to work perfectly in parsing yahoo's feed and others.

Thank me later chuck, lol. I think I solved the problem: Code: Content visible to verified customers only.
The first example is Yahoo, the second is photopost right before the href. Apparently the readers might not be parsing out this portion properly and best using the ascii representation. I wonder if modifying the code to make this work could work?

Well Not sure what your trying to say here but this discussion does not seem to have anything to do with the Photopost coding. Our RSS feed works and is valid RSS from what I see. This seems to be about something your trying to do in some other program.
Our links work and link to the actual photo etc etc
Now lets look at your yahoo link you say works with whatever your trying to do. It simply is not valid rss Feed Validator Results: http
Now lets look at my site for an example and the RSS Feed from the gallery Feed Validator Results: http://www.reeftalk.com/gallery/external.php?type=RSS2
Thats a completely valid RSS feed.

Chuck - if Yahoo syndication doesn't seem to care enough about "the validator" then... well... you know where I'm going with this, lol! The validator validates pages that don't work and will spit out 50 errors for pages that are actually fine...
Here's the scoop - yes, I can SEE the pictures in a browser. I've tried several different PHP based rss feeds - which you'd think is a large purpose of using RSS to distribute your feeds in a popular format. NONE of them seem to work with the photopost image feed - all work with Yahoo, Nasa and the others. Here are examples:
RSS2HTML PHP service and server side downloadable:
YOURS: ReefTalk.com
YAHOO: Photo Highlight on Yahoo! News Photos
The feed into Wordpress - standard wordpress using the "SimplePie" plugin works perfectly with Yahoo but not with your validated but not working feed - and I love fish (I'm a big freshwater guy who may be using PP for his foray too but may be tempted to also just join the reef, lol.) Regardless of what happens in the validator, if you can't get the feed working with Wordpress as standard, it might make you wonder whether an adjustment should be made.
Perhaps here's a better request - could you suggest places that are using this feed and that it's working for them? I can't get it to just fill in what I need properly on the home page of a client site.

A valid RSS feed is used in a FEEDREADER one installs on there computer to keep track of new news threads etc. Free RSS reader / RSS platform for enterprise grade solutions | Feedreader.com
The Photopost RSS feed is completely valid and much the same as the vbulletin feed used in vbulletin.
We code to the actual RSS VALIDATION and requirements. So validating our feed at W3C.ORG I show would be correct.
Your issue seems to be more of a how do I get it working with wordpress which might be best asked at wordpress support. I know nothing about what there specs are. In Photopost your dealing with a valid RSS 2.0 feed put out based on the RSS 2.0 specification. There is nothing really I show we need to change in our code.
Yahoo is its own RSS service so sure they may not care about validation and doing things like they should be done based on the actual specification.

Now your talking about some service creating an RSS feed into HTML
Lets try RSS2HTML which is a very popular script you can run free on your site here it is here ReefTalk.com
I simply enter the feed url as this and as you can see my html prints fine ReefTalk.com |

Chuck... this is certainly weird!!!! Thanks so much for the help and the quick feedback!!!. The issue isn't getting it to work in wordpress. I can't even get it to work in rss2html - the links i used are using the latest version the I downloaded and installed. I realize that, for whatever reason, it isn't parsing the HTML being generated from photopost.
I'm wondering if there is just a setting with rss2html that isn't parsing properly on my site and does this automatically for Yahoo. Now using the feedforall site the photopost feed DOES work - so I apologize. But there still is a compatibility issue "out of the box" with some alternatives although I'm not sure the PP is "per se" a problem but rather that they all work a certain way, PP may be compliant but these "standard" tools don't care, lol. I'll keep you posted with what I discover...
and as always, thanks SO much for the great support.

Apparently it's server security related. For whatever reason photopost's feed is affected probably due to images and also due to the fact that it is originating from this server. Can't explain it, but glad to say the feed works and apologize for assuming it was photopost (and glad that I didn't vent too much and assumed we'd figure it out. ) So this hopefully will help others with this problem.

Not sure if this is relevent or if it helps but it might be of interest
I had a brainwave today and unbelievably for a blonde it worked. I wanted a newsfeeder on my side bar to drop messages in from admin to site members... but one with a scroll bar so they can read back and one that I didnt have to keep going in and faffing with code all the time... so today I set up a twitter account with a suitable name and I am using that widget code in one of my custom pals.. it works fine I am really pleased with it and what more members who are with twitter can follow the site news through there too.
Perfectly Captured Gallery - Main Index is the site and my news twitter is Helen (PC_Updates) on Twitter feel free to drop by and follow the site news too if you twitter
