Can images be placed outside of public_html?

I run photopost on my largest community website. The gallery after 3-4 years has grown to a huge size. Currently my server has multiple drives, /home, /home2, / and /var.

With the opensource program Gallery2 you can place your photo storage anywhere, is this possible with Photopost? I would love to add another drive to my server and dedicate it just for the storage of my photos for my big community website just like I do with some of my Gallery2 sites.

You can define a webpath for the large images below your webroot sure using storage options in admin.
