Stop Deleting Thumbs on Category Move

How can I stop thumbnails being deleted from an old category when an image is moved to a new category?

The bbcode under an image produces a code like (I've added the *** to be able to show the links without them parsing ):

[url***=http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/archive/showphoto.php/photo/51697][img***]http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/archive/data/31/thumbs/IMG_1344.JPG[/img][/url]

but if I move the image in the gallery I get:

[***url=http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/archive/showphoto.php/photo/51697][***img]http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/archive/data/61/thumbs/IMG_1344.JPG[/img][/url]

so the thumbnail's category is changed in the "data/..." part of the URL, but the showphoto/photo/51697 part of the URL doesn't change:

This means that the thumbnail disappears in forum posts.

So, how can I stop the old thumbnail being deleted when the image is moved to a new category, and therefore still link to the image from forum posts?

I guess the thumbnail isn't being deleted, just moved to the new folder for the new category...so is there code that will duplicate the thumbnail to the new folder rather than move it?

I think I've done it by quoting out a couple of pp-inc.php lines like:

// @unlink( $thumblink );


and


// @unlink( $mmthumb );


The old thumbs remain for forum posts, but the new thumbs are also created and, most importantly, both thumbs link to the big image page

The only down side to the above is if a new upload to the old category shares the same filename as the old thumb and therefore we'll get a new thumb replacing it, but it's a small price to pay compared to losing hundreds of thumbnails from forum posts when images are moved between categories

If you move an image to a different category you move the image so any links you make elsewhere will break.

You can do as you wish and not delete the old thumbs since your free to modify code as you wish just keep a note of any changes you make for upgrades.

It would be good if Photopost could create bbcode with spider friendly thumbs as well as the current spider friendly bigimage URL like:
