registering new user so they can upload

I just had a user register but it would not let him have access to upload. I went into the admin and edit users and saw that he was listed as a "unregistered" user. What needs to happen to move him to registered user so he has priveledges to upload. I know I can manually change his group, which I did. But how do I set new people who register to default into the registered users group so they can have upload access? thanks.

You can in registration options in admin turn off email verification if this is a standalone and you dont want them to confirm their accounts.

Chuck,
I have reg email on but I am not getting any emails. I had three people register today and they did not get any email notification to verify and activate their account nor did the admin get an email when they uploaded photos (I manually added them to the registered users group). I believe I have it set right to send the admin email notification when uploads are sent but not getting any (see attached jpg).

so it looks like my issue is not about turning off the email verification but I need to get the emails out to new users who register, but it is not working. I have checked the admin email address and it is correct.

well then the issue might be that php mail is not setup or working on this server? have you gotten any other emails? Have you verified with the host that a simple php mail string will work?

Chuck,
brad, my IT guy, says that we use emails on our web server every day on our shopping cart.

so what do I test next? I attached a zipped pdf of my global options current settings if that will help.

As long as you have set for registration confirmation to take place and php is set to send emails then you should have no issue unless the user is getting the email sent to their spam filter. Have you tried registering a test user and see if you have any emails sent? Have you tested other email functions like admin notification of uploads etc do you get any emails from the server?

I have not gotten any emails .

I just created a test user and no email sent

I went to admin, edit users, and clicked send email to all users and sent a test email and no go.

What can I do now?

Jeff

it sounds to me like then your email is not working on the server you need to get your host to fix this so that PHP mail works or you need to turn off the email verification.

Chuck,
here is what we know about admin email notification and user register emails. When we use a yahoo email instead of our inhouse email jeffb@groupimaging.com the system works fine, but when we use any email xxx@groupimaging.com neither admin emails go through or registration confirmation emails.

so photopost works with email on our server, but not with our domain? What could this be?

I got a email today about upgrading to newest version, but it looks like we aready have v. 6.11
would the beta that is available possibly help?

I cant say what would be wrong other than maybe your domain is blocking the emails. If things work by using a yahoo email as the admin email use that.
