Prev/next thumbnails on show photo page

I have searched and found several posts on this, but none have a solution that I can follow because those that have solutions in them are pretty old. So, I know I need to edit showphoto.tmpl...but where can I remove either the two outside thumbnails or the center one so that I can have either 3 or 4 (preferred) thumbnails in the prev/next navigation? As is the case with many posters, our table is too narrow for five.

I dont know of any hack to do that but then I dont really follow the mod forums. there is no way to do that in the regular software all you can do is turn it off or display it top bottom left or right. Have you tried displaying it on the right side?
