Photo Contest Category Question

While looking through the PhotoPost Pro vs vBGallery page, I noticed there was a mention of a feature called "Photo Contest Categories." Exactly how does this feature work? I run several art contests on my forum per year and would like to find a gallery system that could handle the job.

essentially how this works is in Photopost Pro you can set a category up as a contest and as admin when viewing the gallery enable voting. The user would view the gallery of thumbnails and under each image is a vote link. They would hit vote for whatever image they wish and as admin you can end the contest and the photos will sort by order of votes displaying the winner at top of the category listed images.

Thank you for the response.

One follow-up question, can the administrator see who voted for which picture?

One problem I always have to contend with is people registering duplicate accounts so they can vote for their own picture. Since I'm using a vBulletin forum, can voting be restricted to specific user groups?

Thanks again.

Yes admin when you view the category you set voting for you will see the voting admin box where you can enable/disable voting clear votes etc.

I must be blind but I can't see the 'voting admin box'.

You would actually need to be logged in as an admin and view the category you just set as voting like so

http://www.site.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=5

You say after ending voting photos should sort in order of votes, I have version 6.2 and it's not sorting in that order, in showgallery.php it still sorts most recent first and in showmembers.php it sorts by my default setting in edit category.

showmembers as I have stated has nothing to do with a voting category. That is not a category.

I would have to see what your doing to post anything else.

Mary that is not a category that is a link to all images.

To view things as expected you actually have to view the contest category

The members category as I have stated can never be used for a contest category. That is prioritized to sort by user.

You have used the members gallery for your competition - the members gallery does not allow voting.

You should set up another category called "Wallpaper Competition 2008" change that to contest mode.
You'd then go to your admin area and choose bulk move, and move all the entries from Members galleries to your new gallery.

You then visit the new category "Wallpaper Competition 2008" and turn on the voting.

Mary yes Simon has pointed out what we have stated in this thread a few times. the members gallery category 500 can not be used as a contest category. You must create other categories to run contests in. The members gallery category serves a very specific function within the product which is why you can not delete this category.

Members gallery

Ok it's becoming clearer now, is it because I have only one category and used category 500? Is a top level category always a Members Gallery? Or is it just category 500 that is?
Thanks

It is only category 500 that can't be used for contests, so you can create another top level category for your competition.
