Question cookie integration between forum and gallery

Hello,
I had PhotoPost installed on my forum, and love it! However, there was a chronic user-login issue with my phpBBforum and I had to run a cookie mod to fix that. The login problems are solved on my Forum, but now there is a little glitch with my Forum members not being able to toggle back and forth between my forum(http://forum.brianmahieu.com/) and my gallery (http://gallery.brianmahieu.com/index.php).
I actually just tried it and was asked to register before accessing the gallery. ahhh.
Before running the cookie mod script I could toggle back and forth between the forum and gallery, but most of my members could not log in.

phpBB support said I should ask here, as their cookie mod did fix my login troubles.

This is the mod I used: Geocator's Auto Cookies MOD, info at this link: http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article/conf...okie-settings/

Do you have any suggestions for me?

Thank you, Brian

Your cookies in both products will need to be set like this as your using subdomains and you will never be logged in if your setting the domain blank since the domains are different and the cookie would be created as forum.brianmahieu.com and that cookie would never be read over gallery.brianmahieu.com

cookie path /

cookie prefix phpbb2mysql

cookie domain .brianmahieu.com

Chuck, Thank you for the speedy answer.
So, you are saying that it is possible to toggle back and forth between the forum and gallery if I set the cookie path correctly? (phpbb was telling me I'd probably have to make the gallery a subdomain of the forum, but that would wreck hundreds of links already in place in forum posts...so I don't want to do that)

can you direct me to a resource that will explain how I alter the cookie path etc. in the gallery? For the forum, I'm guessing I would use the auto cookie mod again and enter this info:

cookie path /

cookie prefix phpbb2mysql

cookie domain .brianmahieu.com

thanks in advance, Brian

You can set your cookies in the forum like that and then logout and log back in to create the new cookie that will be used across all domains and you should be logged into the gallery and then be able to change cookie settings in the photopost admin to match under cookie settings.

Thanks again Chuck. I am pretty paranoid about tinkering with this, but will try it. Is there a tutorial or something somewhere that I could look at?

Not really its pretty straight forward and their are plenty of support threads about this and info on the web about how cookies work. They are only wrote on the domain you specify so if you leave it blank it is written on the domain your on so since your urls are different that cookie does not work. The only way a cookie will work on all subdomains it must be written as .brianmahieu.com so it will work on all your subdomains.

Chuck,
Thank you for the excellent and speedy advice. I am very impressed with your tech support!

I changed the cookie info to the above just as you said. The cookie path was
/forum.
I just had to change it to
/
and now the gallery and forum are perfectly integrated.

You rock! Brian
