| Thumbnail Uniform Resizing
Hi Chuck
I have just recently resized my thumbnails to 150x150 using the uniformed feature. I left the quality setting at 70 and they looked a little fuzzy. I then tried at 100 and I really couldn't see any difference. Should I use a number lower than 70 on these larger thumbnails and if so what do recommend on this size thumbnail?
Thanks in advance. |

I recommend 70 to 100, I cant really say anything else than that. Are they fuzzy without using the uniform thing

Hey Chuck,
No they were crystal clear when set at default. I tried setting Thumbnail image max width and height in pixels to 150, but the width and height was not consistent, but they were clear. So then I went to uniformed since I am using IM, thats when I see the fuzzy thumbnails.

okay and if you set the uniform thumb back to 120 x 78 do the thumbnails appear fuzzy?

Hey Chuck
Do you want me to leave uniform thumbnail feature set to 'yes' when I set this back to 78/120? Also what do you want me to set Thumbnail image max width and height in pixels to? Set it back to 100, leave at 150 or?

You can leave the thumbnail threshold to 150 thats not used with uniform thumbs. I am trying to see what a thumb looks like if you use 120x78 which is the default settings. Maybe that crop feature needs to use a portrait landscape I dont know.

Did you rebuild all the thumbnails? It might be stretching your old ones until you have it make new ones.

I rebuilt all the thumbnails to 120x78 and yes they do look clearer, but maybe they could also look that way because you are viewing such a smaller thumbnail, I dunno.
How many times do you half to run the rebuild process to get all the thumbnails to resize? After resizing to 120x78 I still have a few 150x150 thumbnails showing. I have run several of the processes to try and clean up the gallery, but they are still showing at 150x150.

Make sure your not caching your page. They should be rebuilt when running it once.

Chuck
Are you talking about "Use category cache?
On some larger sites, using the category cache can actually reduce performance." If so then yes its on as I left those settings at default. Should this be off during the thumbnail rebuild?

I got you Chuck and thats taken care of, thanks.
What do you think about the portrait landscape when using 150x150 and what section do I make that change in before I resize the thumbnails again?

I think if uniform works with a landscape layout and you want to use uniform do that otherwise turn that off and do regular 150 thumbs.

Thanks Chuck you have been a big help as always.
I think I will just stick with the uniformed method as the other way my thumbnails are not consistent in size (ie 150x120 150x146 etc).
