Hi, just installed Photopost and am looking forward to getting all my users hooked on it. I have a bunch of questions/issues/suggestions before I tell them about it, though.
[Edit: if it's not something that's available in the regular install and would need a hack or something, please tell me so I can post it in the right forum and get an answer. Thanks.]
1.
When uploading photos using the "upload photo" form button,
I can only select one photo at a time. Even the description suggests I could select more than one, but there seems to be no way (hold down Ctrl, drag a box around a few, etc.) to do this. In contrast, Imageshack's toolbar allows me to use a similar form and select as many as I want and upload them all at once. This would save users a lot of time, and I imagine it's a question of a simple edit to the form (which I might even try to hack myself). What's up with this? Is it maybe in a setting I didn't see? ("allow upload of x at a time", etc.) I see that I can make multiple upload
prompts, but that's still reeeeally tedious if you want to upload a large amount of files at once.
2. A couple of awkward pieces of text in the template. At the top in the
title bar it says, for example "Bob Gallery - My Photo Gallery - ..." Would it be difficult to change this to say "Bob's Gallery"? Also can I change where the link just says "Home" to say "Gallery Home" or similar? I had another one, but I've forgotten it at the moment.
2b. How can I edit what shows up in the title bar beyond just the above? I want my site's name in there and maybe some of the keywords from the particular photo (
SEO).
3. I already emailed Scott Wainner about this one (a suggestion really) so I'll just paste it:
Quote:
Could you tell me exactly what URL is supposed to be pasted into the Admin CP for this program? I've done a search but it's really unclear and I can't seem to post in the forum yet (just fixed my email for that).
It would be nice if that was made a little clearer somewhere, maybe in the FAQs. I was looking for:
"the url should look like this http://whatever.whatever?pid=012309814 yada yada where the number is your CJ affiliate ID."
...
His answer:
If you go to the "links" page at CJ for PhotoPost, you'll find a link for the Powered by notice. Actually, you can use that link or any of the other banner links as well. I can't give you the link, you have to login to your CJ panel and find it there because it's customized for your account.
...
Me again:
Thanks Scott. It might be a good idea to make that clearer in the Admin CP or at least the forum FAQ area, as I didn't know if I was supposed to paste the whole URL of a link, wait for a special one in my email, just paste my CJ aff ID like some mods do, etc. All the threads about it said "paste the URL you get from CJ" without any examples... kinda frustrating.
As it turns out, your initial auto-email contained a "sample link" (see below) whose URL should work there.
Thanks for your help.

FYI, mine looks like this:
http://www.kqzyfj.com/click-1-6308434 (it's one of the scrambled redirect URLs used to avoid ad blocking)
4.
Can I disable the message system of Photopost and
make it use the vB PM system instead? Same question for the rest of the
Profile stuff - can it use the vB info for all that?
5. What's up with this? Just my computer being weird (happens) or is it a
bug in a template or something? Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
6.
Can I set it up to use keywords with more than one word in them? I ask because I use the Zoints tag system and in that one, you can use keywords up to three words long, and they are separated by commas. My users, being used to that, will probably try to do the same thing, and you end up with a bunch of single word keywords with commas in them. As it is right now I have to smush these words together to make keywords of value.
e.g.
Zoints: shrimp, plate, plate of shrimp, diuretix
PP: shrimp plate plateOfShrimp [maybe plate-of-shrimp] diuretix
The keyword system is going to be
very important for what i want to do, so I hope to iron this out before people start uploading and keywording all their stuff. I don't want them to have to go back through that. The more specific the keywords can be, the more valuable they will be to us. I'd prefer keywords with, say, up to 5 words or something.
6b. At the very least, where would I edit in some guidelines for the format of the keywords so people do them correctly, i.e.
"Keywords (one word only, separated by spaces)"
7.
Can I have the keywords for each image displayed on the thumbnail gallery page? (See
http://www.shutteralley.com/member.php?uid=37) Same question for the
category of the image.
8.
Can an image be in more than one category at once? If not, what do you do when it could go in either?
9. Nevermind, but left for future ref:
Can I rearrange the categories after they have stuff in them? If I decide that one category should be a subcategory of another, or vice versa, or just want to redo the tree, can I do that? (Even if it means editing a file that contains this)
[edit FYI - I found the setting in Edit category for "Parent" which accomplishes this. So nevermind.]
10.
Do I need mod_rewrite to be on for spider friendly URLs? I turned it on and they don't look friendly.
What about htaccess? (I disabled it for speed purposes.)
11.
How do I get easy URLs for people to use to copy/paste a thumbnail or full version of the pics they uploaded? See here:
http://www.shutteralley.com/showphoto.php/photo/196
12. After a keyword search, I got this message at the top of my window above the logo and everything:
Quote:
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /includes/functions_editor.php on line 596 |
What's this?

Okay, that's all for the moment. Sorry to be such a pain but I just shelled out $ for this so I want to get it working right ASAP.
Thanks!
