Exclamation Just installed on vB, a bunch of Qs - multi upload, keywords, template edits, etc.

Hi, just installed Photopost and am looking forward to getting all my users hooked on it. I have a bunch of questions/issues/suggestions before I tell them about it, though.

[Edit: if it's not something that's available in the regular install and would need a hack or something, please tell me so I can post it in the right forum and get an answer. Thanks.]

1. When uploading photos using the "upload photo" form button, I can only select one photo at a time. Even the description suggests I could select more than one, but there seems to be no way (hold down Ctrl, drag a box around a few, etc.) to do this. In contrast, Imageshack's toolbar allows me to use a similar form and select as many as I want and upload them all at once. This would save users a lot of time, and I imagine it's a question of a simple edit to the form (which I might even try to hack myself). What's up with this? Is it maybe in a setting I didn't see? ("allow upload of x at a time", etc.) I see that I can make multiple upload prompts, but that's still reeeeally tedious if you want to upload a large amount of files at once.

2. A couple of awkward pieces of text in the template. At the top in the title bar it says, for example "Bob Gallery - My Photo Gallery - ..." Would it be difficult to change this to say "Bob's Gallery"? Also can I change where the link just says "Home" to say "Gallery Home" or similar? I had another one, but I've forgotten it at the moment.

2b. How can I edit what shows up in the title bar beyond just the above? I want my site's name in there and maybe some of the keywords from the particular photo (SEO).

3. I already emailed Scott Wainner about this one (a suggestion really) so I'll just paste it:

Quote:
Could you tell me exactly what URL is supposed to be pasted into the Admin CP for this program? I've done a search but it's really unclear and I can't seem to post in the forum yet (just fixed my email for that).

It would be nice if that was made a little clearer somewhere, maybe in the FAQs. I was looking for:

"the url should look like this http://whatever.whatever?pid=012309814 yada yada where the number is your CJ affiliate ID."

...

His answer:
If you go to the "links" page at CJ for PhotoPost, you'll find a link for the Powered by notice. Actually, you can use that link or any of the other banner links as well. I can't give you the link, you have to login to your CJ panel and find it there because it's customized for your account.

...

Me again:

Thanks Scott. It might be a good idea to make that clearer in the Admin CP or at least the forum FAQ area, as I didn't know if I was supposed to paste the whole URL of a link, wait for a special one in my email, just paste my CJ aff ID like some mods do, etc. All the threads about it said "paste the URL you get from CJ" without any examples... kinda frustrating.

As it turns out, your initial auto-email contained a "sample link" (see below) whose URL should work there.

Thanks for your help.
FYI, mine looks like this: http://www.kqzyfj.com/click-1-6308434 (it's one of the scrambled redirect URLs used to avoid ad blocking)

4. Can I disable the message system of Photopost and make it use the vB PM system instead? Same question for the rest of the Profile stuff - can it use the vB info for all that?

5. What's up with this? Just my computer being weird (happens) or is it a bug in a template or something?

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.

6. Can I set it up to use keywords with more than one word in them? I ask because I use the Zoints tag system and in that one, you can use keywords up to three words long, and they are separated by commas. My users, being used to that, will probably try to do the same thing, and you end up with a bunch of single word keywords with commas in them. As it is right now I have to smush these words together to make keywords of value.

e.g.
Zoints: shrimp, plate, plate of shrimp, diuretix
PP: shrimp plate plateOfShrimp [maybe plate-of-shrimp] diuretix

The keyword system is going to be very important for what i want to do, so I hope to iron this out before people start uploading and keywording all their stuff. I don't want them to have to go back through that. The more specific the keywords can be, the more valuable they will be to us. I'd prefer keywords with, say, up to 5 words or something.

6b. At the very least, where would I edit in some guidelines for the format of the keywords so people do them correctly, i.e.

"Keywords (one word only, separated by spaces)"

7. Can I have the keywords for each image displayed on the thumbnail gallery page? (See http://www.shutteralley.com/member.php?uid=37) Same question for the category of the image.

8. Can an image be in more than one category at once? If not, what do you do when it could go in either?

9. Nevermind, but left for future ref: Can I rearrange the categories after they have stuff in them? If I decide that one category should be a subcategory of another, or vice versa, or just want to redo the tree, can I do that? (Even if it means editing a file that contains this)

[edit FYI - I found the setting in Edit category for "Parent" which accomplishes this. So nevermind.]

10. Do I need mod_rewrite to be on for spider friendly URLs? I turned it on and they don't look friendly. What about htaccess? (I disabled it for speed purposes.)

11. How do I get easy URLs for people to use to copy/paste a thumbnail or full version of the pics they uploaded? See here: http://www.shutteralley.com/showphoto.php/photo/196

12. After a keyword search, I got this message at the top of my window above the logo and everything:

Quote:
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /includes/functions_editor.php on line 596
What's this?

--

Okay, that's all for the moment. Sorry to be such a pain but I just shelled out $ for this so I want to get it working right ASAP.

Thanks!

13. Oh yeah, is there any way to make a keyword cloud like Flickr has? (where the most popular tags are in a big list, and font sized in order of popularity)? I see one for the Classifieds system but not for this.

14. Is there any way to batch-edit a bunch of photos in my gallery? Say I want to go through a whole bunch and change/add keywords, or fix titles or something. Can I get a list like what comes up when you batch upload a few at a time?

15. Since keywords will be important to my use, is there any way to make an inline (AJAX?) "add keyword" form like Zoints has for tags? See here:

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.

1. You can select how many file prompts to display on upload screen to allow more than one file upload on upload screen but yes if you have one file prompt thats what you can upload. Otherwise you would allow zip uploads to allow multiple files or do a bulk upload via ftp and use the skip checkbox on upload screen to process files in some other directory or already in your uploads directory.

2. You can change the gallery title by going to global options in admin and changing it to the wording you like or leave it blank.

2b. Titles of photos are shown there in the title part of the page when viewing showphoto and category names when viewing showgallery so this is already done. Your site name we showed how to edit or change in number 2.

3. we dont really deal with the affiliate thing here so scott can assist you further but I know I use something like this in my options

http://www.qksrv.net/click-1365260-6308411

4. Sorry no you can not substitute one for the other are they are completely separate products and options. You can choose not to use the messaging system with photopost at all.

5. Looks to me like some style issue with vbulletin. Are you perhaps hard coding your vb page height to a specific height as if you are I would suggest you remove that and let your footer naturally be displayed at the end of your page no matter how long it is to generate the page.

6. You can specify multiple words and photopost will on search search for any instances of each keyword so I am not familiar with zoints here but the keyword feature we use works well for our system that I am aware of. You can specify 5 6 7 words does not matter.

6b. You can specify in the language file in the languages subdirectory any wording changes to our language strings should you feel our wording is not specific enough. Not a problem.

7. those are not keywords in the links you provided they are cat names. Keywords are shown on the showphoto script only. You are free to code in your own changes to the script should you wish to add functionality that does not exist.

8. You can in Admin => Upload Options allow upload to multiple categories just turn on that option

9. Yes in Admin => Edit Categories you can move categories around assign them to other cats etc that will harm nothing as they will still be cat 523 cat 539 etc.

10. The spider friendly urls do work and are friendly. It replaces characters spiders do not like with / and has been proven to work very well.

http://www.reeftalk.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/745

11. You can turn on the ubbcode direct code and html links under admin => show photo options.

12. http://www.photopost.com/forum/showp...51&postcount=4

13. That you would need to code in yourself as there is no functionality in our program like that.

14. There is a way to batch edit files and move them from one cat to another under bulk actions in admin etc but not to edit the photo titles description etc.

15. That you would need to code in yourself as there is no functionality in our program like that.

Hi Chuck, thanks for taking the time to answer. A few clarifications.

2. This issue is different than what you can change in options. It's when you're viewing a user's gallery, and it says "Bob Gallery" instead of "Bob's Gallery". I even looked in showgallery.php and found this:
Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
in a couple places, but when it is shown, the apostrophe-S after the person's username is not displayed. Is this a parsing error, should the apostrophe be replaced with something like " (I don't know the actual code for an apostrophe) or does it need a backslash or something? Look here:
http://www.shutteralley.com/showgall...=500&ppuser=37
It says "kansas gallery" instead of "kansas's gallery". Based on what I found in the code I am thinking something is not working right.

10. Does the spider friendly URL thing need mod_rewrite to be enabled? I said I turned it on and it is not working on my site (My URLs don't look like that reef site). I would guess mod_rewrite would be required to rewrite URLs. Is any other server setting required?

11. I set both of these:
Quote:
Show html code to display photos?
Do you want to show the img src html tag for a photo?
Quote:
Show direct links to photos?
Do you want to display the page link to a photo?
to 'yes' (they were set 'no') and I still don't get any links like this site has:
http://www.shutteralley.com/showphoto.php/photo/196

11b. Also that site has a field to copy that shows a thumbnail link for the photo, is that a hack or what?

Edit - I found the setting, it's under Upload Photo Options for some reason, it's "Show UBBCode on Photo page?" but it only shows a thumbnail link. How do I get it to show a thumbnail link AND a link to the big pic?

Thanks again Chuck, I'll take some of my other q's to the mods area.

Thanks.

2. http://www.reeftalk.com/gallery/show.../ppuser/1/sl/c

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
and it uses this

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
so it is displaying correctly

10. You would need to turn it on and place a link to your site here. It does not need mod rewrite on but it needs AcceptPathInfo On in Apache.

You next post no you can not get rid of the forwards not without you modify the code in some way.

2. Okay, so where do I find
Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
so I can change it? I want it to say "X's Gallery" not "X Gallery" which doesn't make sense in English.

Thanks. I did find how to modify the redirect so it takes a minimal amount of time.

The variable I noted is also found in the showgallery.php file that you noted in most cases right above the line you noted.

Ah, I see it, fixed it, it works, thanks.

Do you think that's something others might want fixed? It seems like it is found in some places as $tusername {$Globals... and in some places as $tusername's {$Globals.... Anyway, the possessive form makes more sense to my eye.

I guess its a users choice, The developer has it coded as it is and must have his reasons but you may always place suggestions in the suggestions forum.
