can we expand or collapse all categories?

we have main categories, subcategories, then many sub-subcategories (probably a word for that). i want the main categories to show with the option to expand all, so they'd see all three levels. does that make sense? i can show two levels, but would rather not. but i want them to be able to view them all if they'd like.
the down arrows which expand or hide seem to only be on the categories with "contains thumbnails = no" and hides the categories under that, but that doesn't quite help me.
this is listed as a feature and i'm guessing it's the down arrows. but can that be made to expand ALL??? help?

Categories can be expanded/collapsed by user to customize look

You can not expand or collapse all categories as you would never have categories to upload photos to. I take it you know how to get the expand collapse feature. You set a category to not contain thumbs meaning it is merely that a top level cat you can not upload to. Hense the only way to not show multiple levels is to make the cat depth in index options 0 and have users click each parent category to show its children all the way down.

thanks chuck. is there a way for viewers to see all the categories? like if they click gallery search, there's a box listing them all. is there a way to maybe link to just that box, just a "show all" kind of link? or a way i'm missing where they can easily see all the sub-sub galleries, and maybe sub-sub-sub galleries?

The search or upload boxes show cats users have permission to see but you dont view cats there. The only way to show all cats is on the index but then you have already stated you do not want to do that. You would set your catdepth to a higher number to show all levels.
