How do I use search strings in 6.01? Can somebody please help me on how I can use search strings in 6.01? On my old version I had links like this: http://www.gamersgallery.com/gallery...&condition=and This would do a search and give back all the results that had "(xbox)" in their title. These links have stopped working since upgrading. I simply need the new string that I can use so that I can still have links that when clicked they will do the same thing and bring up results for images that have words in the images title, but not description. Can somebody please help? Thank you for any info or suggestions you have. |
There is no search strings in 6.0 everything is a secure post page not a get page. You can only issue a search using search.php and then that script will generate a search id with the photos it finds based on that search. |
Oh. So it's more secure, but I lose this feature, is that correct? Just want to make sure I understand right so I have a better understanding of what 6.01 is bringing to the table. :) Thanks. |
I do not mind I just go to all and search with the find on this page. ;) |
yes johnny there is no old get searches in showgallery the new search script does any search and handles things different then your use to in older versions. |
Is it possible to still include a search field on the frontpage of my site that is a non PP page and get it so that it only searches titles or if not that then at least knows that when it searches it should search for all the words together? Right now I search for something like Gears of War and I get tons of results because war is in a lot of descriptions, but it's not very accurate. If it searched only the titles it would know that I was searching for a game titled Gears of War. Same thing for the search on the actual PP pages. Can the search field that's on my front non PP page be fixed? Is it possible to change the way the search on PP pages searches so that it also only searches titles by default. Thanks. |
Not without you writing some custom script yourself. I can only support and respond to our default code here on the support site. |
6.01 may be more secure, but I have to say, it's not very flexible when it comes to getting it to work differently than what you get "out of the box". :( Or did PP support just get more strict on what they're willing to help with? I mean, if there's another site that I have to mention the same question, and you can help me or something, then by all means, please let me know. Still... security is nice to have. :) guess for now I can deal with some "flaws". I may be making a stop by the suggestions forum next time I find some free time. :D |

I'm all for PP getting better, but I remember the good ol' days when PP staff would post snippets of code that would help add features. Now we're given a cold shoulder and told that it's not supported. I can understand it from a "make support easier for your program" perspective, but from a user perspective a friendly support is lost as far as the "extra mile". Not that this is a super bad thing, just something I've noticed. Much of the code changes I had on my previous versions were from others, but I'm pretty sure most were actually from PP staff willing to reply with chunks of code that would help out. IMO support was better before when you could ask for small mods and a PP staff could/would reply with a small snip of code that would do it for you. Now it seems like if it's not a bug that needs fixed, you are rarely getting any code snippets from an actual PP staff member. Maybe it could be taken as a suggestion, but it would make PP a lot better if the mod community for PP was better. Either a hired person to help people with mods until the community got rolling or some type of incentive for people to help. I think it would add a lot of value to PP, but it's just my suggestion from an outsider perspective. Maybe internally you have your reasons, but from what I've seen it was better when you could get a little bit of mod help from the "official" people that actually knew what they are talking about. I don't know much of anything when it comes to php, so I know that most of all my previous tweaks had came from help from others. From what I remember little help ever came from actual other users of PP and most of that help sprouted from conversations with you. Maybe you just had more free time and used it to help with mods and now that PP is growing even larger you have less free time so there is no "official" mod help these days. Not bad mouthing or anything as I love PP and think it's the best pic script on the net. Just something that I've noticed and thought I'd share my thoughts on, in hopes of maybe giving a glimpse into the thoughts of a long time PP user. In any case, keep up the good work and keep the updates coming! :) |
Johnny our policies have never changed on this issue. We do not support code modifications and support staff do not assist with code modifications. We have posted at times sure small code changes to queries etc and still do that on ocassion if its something simple we can answer like a small query alteration etc or how to define a variable etc to our code itself. You do not want some small code snippet change to the photopost code itself directly. You want some full featured external standalone script for your site to use as a search outside of our application on your homepage. Therefore you are free to post in THE MOD CORNER and see if some user wants to assist you. Here are the rules on that forum in case you have not seen this before. http://www.photopost.com/forum/photopost-pro-mod-discussions/announcements.html |
