First off you cant upload anything over your php max filesize limit on the server so that may be your issue. But as far as processing files you upload to the server go to your upload screen make sure you enter the correct path on the server to where you uploaded the images to if you did not upload them to your specific uploads directory. Then check the checkbox to skip the upload and process files in your directory and hit submit. The application will then process the images in that directory you specified. This is called bulk upload.

There is no way to pull or show files stored elsewhere. The file has to be uploaded to photopost to show in photopost. The find images by url function is for images not multimedia.
