| Hmmm why is it doing this.. http://www.mousetrip.net/pp/index.php?cat=536 if you go to that site, you will see a category named dining.. Now, the funny part to that is it is a sub cat of accommodations, and has a few things under it, BUT, it gives you the little expand collapse arrow on the right side and if you press it, it collapses items that are NOT a sub cat of dining.. Curious why it would make it look like it's a major cat, even though it's a sub cat of accommodations, and has nothing to do with parks and beyond?

That bar is shown just because that category is a category the user has set up to be just a parent cat. In Admin => Edit categories set CONTAINS THUMBS to no. That is all there is to it. Its just a topcat that contains subcats you can upload to. If we can assist further let me know.

Ok, but it's not a topcat, it's a sub cat of accommodations..
And even so, why would it collapse all the other stuff below it..
in the admin.. Code: Content visible to verified customers only.
So with this shown, why would it collapse the parks and beyond, instead of the stuff that's under the 'dining'??

Of course its a topcat of all those subcats below it. As posted it does not matter if it is a subcat or not of another category. The dining category does not contain thumbs can not contain thumbs therefore the bar shows. It collapses for me the stuff under dining only. sounds like you have cookie issues try clearing all cookies close your browser and reopen etc.

??? Yea.. it's a top cat of what I have in red, but it's not a top cat of the others.. I mean, if you are saying it's a top cat of stuff that's not even in it's cat, what the hell is that about?? Did you follow my tree? Did it not keep the indetation to show the different tree structure? Code: Content visible to verified customers only.

Well I was referring to that link and expand collapse works fine for me. Possibly you have persistent cookie issues. Try clearing cookies off your computer. What browser etc are you using. I am not seeing any software issue here especially the fact this is centered around a collapse cookie which points to cookie issues. I suppose others can also read this thread and let you know as well they can expland collapse that link.

So, even though logically, it's not a 'parent' of what's below it. It a) wont open what's below it, but will close 'anything' that's below it, if it's in the same sub cat or not? I still dont understand why it wouldnt show and collapse ONLY what was under it as a sub-cat of IT. So if I dont want it to collapse all the other 2nd level cats (just under the main cat) I need tomake sure this is all the way at the bottom? Again, even though, as shown on my tree view with the indentations and all, it's not part of the catagory it's collapsing, you are saying that's how it's going to work? Even though this dining cat I'm talking about is like 4 levels off the top level.
edit: ok 4 levels is a stretch.. but it's for sure not a cat just under the top level

Trip lets see if we can make you understand this. You may want to go to your edit categories page to see what I am talking about so this falls into place here. Your subcats and levels have nothing to do with anything.
Dining is the ONLY category that is a parent of other categories. It has CONTAINS THUMBS set to NO in the cats editor. All your other cats can contain images dining can not therefore this is how you get that bar. Now the only thing that is going to collapse when you click the collapse link on dining is the DIRECT SUBCATS beneath it.
I hope this clarifies this issue as I dont think I can say this any different that I already have in how it is suppose to operate and how it does operate. That site you link works fine just like mine here. http://www.reeftalk.com/gallery/index.php
Our gallery here is an even better example http://www.photopost.com/photopost/index.php |

So going thru and making a tree isnt going to make a bit of difference? If there is a cat that has thumbs set to no ANYWHERE in the tree, it's going to collapse EVERYTHIG under it no matter where on the tree / what level anything?

Your tree only matters here as far as what you have shown above. You have correctly shown in red above the cats that do collapse this is the correct working order of the program. They are the subcats of dining.
Basically any category you create that contains no thumbs is going to collapse its subcats only. I beleive our photopost gallery link above is a great example here.
