If you allow users to create albums they can create a private album. You can password protect categories but no one would be able to see anything in that specific category unless you give them that password. That is under Edit Categories in admin. User albums can be created by users by hitting the MY ALBUMS link on the navbar when they are logged in.

Password for category:
(leave blank if category does not require a password to access)
----
That's the only option I can find with regards to password settings but I'm confused what that does.
I thought you initially meant (in another thread) that any user can create a private gallery and then set a password to it.

That options is for categories in edit categories and that is where the admin password protects a category.
If you allow personal albums users can hit MY ALBUMS on the photopost menubar and in there they can create or edit their personal albums and on creation or editing there will be a box that asks whether it will be private or not. If they set that to yes it will be password protected.
I hope that explains the functionality of the software to you. If there is anything else let me know.

So let's say I stuck in a password called Chuck for that setting, I was referring to a few posts ago.
So when, some other user create a new album indicates it wanting to be private it'll be protected by the password "Chuck"?

No sorry not at all. The option you are referring to is the password for categories so what that means when someone tries to view that category you set a password for they will not be allowed to enter until they type the password Chuck in there where asked.
You can try it to see what I mean.

OK, stupid question. What do you mean by category?
Isn't a user able to set his/her own password to an album they create. That's what I would like to know and HOW to achieve that?

No a user does not set a password.
A category is what you setup in admin which is where you are getting the setting your looking at.
Users create personal albums by hitting my albums on the menubar on the index. They can set whether it is public an private. They set it to private the user is then given the url to that album and the passwsord. They can not set what it is.

OK, let's try it again.
So, when I set a password into that setting called "Smiggy".
Someone create a private album, the link is annonymous and the only way that album can be accessed is by being provided the link and the password "Smiggy".

No that is not what happens. Please read what i posted above. That is a password for a category not an album. Please try creating a personal album on your site and you may understand what I am writing. Personal albums and Categories are two totally separate things.

OK, I understand. Let's forget the categories then.
So a user hits My Album, uploads a few pics and indicates it to be private. So where's the password? If the user doesn't set then who does? You say categories and users are totally different and the password you set for categories has no bearing on albums.
Also, you stated the link would be private, that it would have to be given out. Then why is it when I login as another user go to PhotoPost I can see the pic I just uploaded as the original user?

have you cleared your browser cookies?
The url and passwords of the private albums is shown under my albums on menubar.
If you could see a private photo because you where still cookied with that category password or where logged in as admin.

Yea, cookies act wierd sometimes.. That's why i like to have a 2nd computer as my test computer.. Or use internet explorer as my main and firefox as a 2nd or the other way.. Then you can log in as 'just a user' and not have to worry about if it really logged you out or not..

Yeah the password cookie you definately want to close your browser and reopen. Persistent cookies definately are one of the top support issues.

I don't want to have that cookie as persistent.
When I am logging in on a public place, the next person using that pc can see the password-protectd category.
Sorry for my bad english
