Question Three Problems with the Arabic Version

I have three problems:

First:

Photopost is not accepting Arabic chars in new usernames .

Second:

The board should be right-to-left but it is the opposite (ie left-to-right) .

Third:

The Arabic charachters in the admin cp page only when I click on edit categories and also after selecting a cetegory then editing it, show, for example, as: ÇáÓíÇÑÇÊ instead of السيارات .. . (there is no problem in viewing it in the main classifieds page).

Any advice will very much be appreciated .

1. This probally has nothing to do with the code. What charset encoding is your database? There is nothing I see restrictive in our username registration so it might be a translation issue with it in the database. You might need to set tables to UTF

2. You need to edit your templates and change the left to right align statements. arabic prints html backwards but you also need to write your html backwards. we only have one template set not two.

3. I will search on this I think there is a thread on this.

I contacted my host regarding the issue of PhotoPost not accepting Arabic characters for new usernames. They said something I didn't quite understand:

Quote:
Dear Customer,
You are going to want to change the collation of the mysql database that the script is running off of:

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/...on-effect.html

Then you will want to make sure that the script is pre-collating all the queries correctly:

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/...t-collate.html

This will resolve your issue.
If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to contact us.

and when requested them to help me do it, they responded with:

Quote:
Hello,

Photopost is not developed nor supported by us. We only support the installation and other server related issues. We cannot support the configuration or troubleshoot any bugs such as database collation. You would need to seek assistance from photopost's support for that issue.

I am really lost, as PhotoPost is not accepting Arabic characters when new users register afresh HELP!!!

Off the top of my head I dont really know how to explain how to use phpmyadmin. Your host should be able to assist you there in altering the tables to utf-8 which is basically the same thing I am saying.

If you send us a phpmyadmin link to your database and sign in I may be able to change the collations for you but I find it odd your host wont help its their server and mysql setup.

Thanx, Chuck for your kindness. The problem of PhotoPost not accepting Arabic characters does not happen with vBulletin, where everything runs smoothly.

I got in touch with my server support ppl who said:

Hello,

I do not believe the collation of the database is the issue here and there is no way for us to tell what else within PhotoPost is not compatible with the arabic language. You need to get a clear diagnosis from them and provide us with any steps we need to take to make their software work. Again, we do not develop nor do we support third party scripts such as PhotoPost. We will help you with anything that needs to be set serverside but there is no way for us to know what to set without PhotoPost's advisement.

Regards,
Where do I go from here, will ya?!!!

Have you changed your collation? It is hard for me to understand where you are with this? I can help if you send phpmyadmin url and signin info to support@photopost.com

We have numerous users who use arabic language fine so let me know where your at. Site urls would always help.
