| Need to confirm how underscores work
Chuck,
On occasion, there will be a photo title name that represents a set of words and underscores put together. It becomes an issue when it's respective thumbnail is displayed elsewhere, because it forces columns to be unusually wide. When I see it happen, I manually edit the title and take out the underscores.
After reviewing some other threads on the issue, I wanted to confirm some things before I started messing with this:
function fixfilenames( $realname ) - Is $realname the same thing as the photo title?
- Does changing $realname affect the actual filename on the server?
- I prefer to keep underscores in the actual filenames on the server, but not in the title displayed in PhotoPost, will this be an issue?
- There were some older posts related to searches, what is the best way to remove underscores without making searches less effective?
My thought was to add the code in bold: Code: Content visible to verified customers only.
My apologies, just realized I put this in the wrong forum.

You can not change the $realname variable that is the file
If your trying to change title your in the wrong place. You need to look in image-inc.php as thats where we insert the photo to the database and you would come up with whatever code hack you want to do whatever you wish to the title
GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR CODE HACKING

Thanks for the feedback Chuck, it did look like I was in the wrong place.
I found the place in image-inc.php that created the title if the user didn't enter it, and added an additional line: Code: Content visible to verified customers only.
Which in turn makes me wonder if it would be better to require a title to be entered by the user; but maybe not.
Thanks Again.

Yeah you could also add code in there to shorten the title also

Chuck,
This is an old issue, but would it be possible to incorporate this into future versions of PhotoPost permanently?
The problem with allowing underscores to copy over (when used in a filename) is that it creates unusually long titles and less-useful keywords. Replacing the underscore with a space results in a multi-word photo title that has a greater chance of being useful.
I'm having to manually re-edit this particular file with each upgrade. It's simple to do, but I didn't remember this time around after the recent upgrade and have had to do some manual photo edits.
Thanks,

You can place suggestions in the suggestions forum for Michael. I dont know how many people would like underscores in their title which is why this has never been added.

My apologies if I mis-stated, but the intent is to remove underscores and replace them with spaces.

Yes, that is exactly what I manually edit into the code/file.
Thanks,

I suppose a suggestion could be published with this issue.
Coppermine has an admin function: "Characters forbidden in filenames" then you enter the characters not wanting in the filenames. By default, this is: $/\\:*?"'<>|` &
and my understanding is that is takes those out upon upload, or upon display - but either way, you can refuse anything you want with it..

Chuck,
My apologies for reviving an old thread, but had to manually apply this fix to the latest version of PP-Pro when a user mentioned that their uploaded filenames were retaining the underscores.
Is there a way to make this permanent?

Our files are encoded the way they are suppose to be. This thread is really a user want or code mod and is not something that would be employeed in the product.
