Rejected photos stay in data directories?

I noticed this on my site: users upload a photo that is smaller than the size I require, the photo is not added to the gallery, but it isn't removed from the data directory. In other words, all rejected photos that were rejected because the pixel size is too small are still in my data directories. They are obviously not being deleted once the users get the error that their pic size was too small.

I'd rather not have the rejected photos in my data directories, but I don't know what to do to make that happen. I don't see those rejected photos anywhere in the script/admin so I think that the only thing I can do is to remove them manually. In the long run this will be problematic of course. What can I do?

Thanks.

Data directory or uploads directory?

I will do some testing on my end but in the process image function I do see this which should delete the image if it is not within the confines

When I wrote the post I was talking about data directory. But after I read your reply I checked the upload directories and I see that the rejected images are there too, so they are in both the data and upload directories.
