Faster way to rebuild all thumbs?

I tried to do a scan database > Rebuild all thumbnails, however, we have 48,000 photos in our gallery, and the time it took to do only about 20 was close to 1 hour. It finally threw up a "can not find server" error and stopped. Is there a faster and more reliable way of rebuilding the thumbs?

Can not find server? HMMM

anything in your server error logs?

I would think this is a PHP timeout issue but thats usually a white page not a server not found.

You can add this line to the top of pp-inc.pp to see if helps right under the error_reporting line

ini_set("memory_limit","40M");
ini_set("max_execution_time", 0);

I will try this, however, I am not overly concerned about the time out issue. I went ahead and tested an area in the gallery that had one photo. It took 4 minutes for it to reformat the thumb. Apply that to our entire gallery, you are looking at 3200+ hours to rebuild the thumbs. There has to be a faster way to do this.

Just wanted to come back and state that it doesn't take this long on all the photos, however the time is excessive on what appears to be the majority of the rebuild. We're on a pretty powerful server as well, so I know it's not that.

Well have you tried compiling imagemagick yourself with all supporting libraries and using that versus GD2?

I guess if you have an issue with how long it takes to process a thumbnail on some photos the real issue is what is different about those thumbnails

We are resizing the thumbs from 100 pixel to 200 pixels. That's it.

We are already using Imagemagick in our gallery for the thumbs.

In that case I dont know what to say then because imagemagick does not use PHP's resources. You would need to get any info you can from your server logs about any errors.

Did the ini_set lines do anything with that error of the actual Photopost script timing out. I am going to assume with that generic message of can not find server that this is your issue although your server error logs should contain more exact info as to any issues there

Is there a way to rebuild the thumbnails faster? Ignore the issue with the error.. We just want to rebuild thumbs, but not have to shut down the gallery for 3 months to do it.
