Hi Chuck
I just used this page as an example http://www.photopost.com/forum/attac...5&d=1180140605
This is not my site, but this is how i can see a private album display.
I DONT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN, BECAUSE ITS VERY CONFUSING.
I want members to see a lock on the private album
Then when they click the lock they should be taken to a password entry page.
How can this be done ?
this is my gallery & as you can see that 90% of the members would want to have their photos password protected. Please help

Hi Richard http://www.reeftalk.com/gallery/showmembers.php?sl=r
even here i think it would make most sense if somebody could see that the g-spot album is private by indicating it with a lock insted of the current image & then when somebody clicks on that it would take them to a password entry page, instead of what is showing now which would not let anybody know why the album is there in teh first case.
So if there is a lock there is some indication that its a private album & then when they are prompted for a password when clicked, then i would let the user know that this is a password protected album. How can we do this ?

If there photos are password protected in a private album then they are not shown say on this page http://www.plasmetic.com/gallery/sho...500/ppuser/859
The alteration I suggested would show a thumbnail for the user who does not have one showing there

I think there is a MAJOR BUG in the private albums, its not very userfriendly with the current functionality and practically not usable in my case. If its so confusing for an engineer to use the private albums, imagine somebody novice. Please help me resolve this ?

I think your confusing discussions or issues
The showmember script which this thread is about always takes a user to showgallery script cat 500 and with the edit noted will show a thumbnail to get to the users members gallery
The showgallery will not and does not show private albums. To see a private album and have a box to enter a password the user needs to send you that url

If the private albums are also shown with the regular albums, with some indication then i think its private it will be useful for users, else if a member has to tell everybody that they have a private album, it only serves the purpose for a certain time. For example i have a private album & then i post about ti in the forums, after 6 months there will not be of anyuse as the forum post might have been buried down. I want some functionality like this http://www.makemeheal.com/pictures/s...tion=procedure http://www.makemeheal.com/pictures/v...hp?albumid=194 -- when you click on robin23 which has a lock & everybody knows that its a private albu.
that is when the visitor can contact the member for the password.

I think there are quite a few members ( ZippySLC, mlk_f1) who are requesting this functionality & the earlier posts also relate to this but there is no answer.

Requesting something new or different and how it works is a different issue entirely. I am only dealing with the support side of this discussion as is what this thread is about. Anyone is free to post suggestions for new future versions in the suggestions forum.
Private albums are not shown in the default code as I noted thats why its private only when a user shares his url with friends can they access it no one ever sees it. You will never go to showgallery and see a private album in there members gallery or any other cat one is assigned to.
Earlier in this thread I posted a possible fix to no thumbnail being shown on the members gallery main showmembers script and the fix I posted does work in giving someone a thumbnail to click to go to someone's main members gallery. The developer may choose to handle the situation some other way for that specific issue but in general whether private albums show or dont show on the showgallery script is a new discussion and a suggestion for a future version because thats not how they are suppose to show now.

Well, that's how to make happy customers. Sorry to say. I have exactly the same problem as described hereabouts, and dropping the code did not resolve the issue for me either, as described here, too. And as quite so often, all we get to hear is: Sorry, but we don't mind what you would like to see in functionality, that is how we did it and what we did is best.
The handling of password protected areas is crap, and this goes not only for private albums. For instance: What would password protecting a category be good for? If people upload images into that category, the images go straight into their open, not password protected user galleries, too. So, I have to explain to them: Make a private gallery, upload the images into that private gallery, and assign them to the password protected area. And then, the bug this thread is about comes in. This is way to complicated for the average user.

Dropping the code noted definately shows a thumbnail on the showmembers script and does resolve the issue this thread is about. So what sure your editing and removing this code. You will definately see a thumbnail to click to get to a users gallery http://www.photopost.com/forum/showp...8&postcount=11
This thread is not about the other issues brought up which is how Photopost handles private albums on showgallery. You want to show private albums with some picture instead of them not showing up. Private albums show under the same permissions structure as categories in the gallery. If you do not have permission to see it you will not see it.
Trying to do anything other than what the code is designed to do is code hacking and falls outside product support.
