Also I see that on the sites you give examples of there are links to Show Exif.

The photos in my db that do have exif extracted just display it. Am I possibly on the wrong version?

I think I posted in the other threads the permissions on the file that are usually needed

Yes your running an older Photopost but then you know that right

Things like this are why I will never run a windows server. As I previously stated sometimes people can never get imagemagick etc to work right on their windows servers because of permissions and nothing helps. I think everything that has been compiled on this site for years has been brought up. I really dont know what else to say. If proper permissions are set on that file you have tried the command switch from exec to cmd.exe I am out of suggestions

I for one will always run Linux everything is so much simpler and there are no issues like this

Saying you only run Linux is great, but doesn't get me anywhere.

I can't move at this point. There are programs I run that require windows.

Can you tell post a list of permissions needed for each user?

You keep telling me it's a permission problem but don't give me details. That makes troubleshooting almost impossible.

And are you telling me there is no one out there running this on Windows with exif working correctly?

Michael does not use php's exif function because it is and has been for along time riddled with bugs.

Not saying this at all quite the contrary. I am sure there are plenty of people with it working. However people on windows servers using the server are probally no more than 5% so you dont see this brought up alot.

The problem comes down to a windows anomaly that I have no answer for. Basically your issue is not just jhead. It is Imagemagick jhead or jpegtran. You will never be able to run any of those currently unless a resolution is found for your permissions.

In this discussion we have gone the gammit of the whole discussion ever had on this subject. I have exausted every resource here. This is a compilation of the discussion.

1. Install all programs with short paths and place proper full paths in options and set all switches to use them

2. Set permissions on uploads and data directories and the programs and cmd.exe to allow IWAM IUSER GUEST accounts READ WRITE EXECUTE permissions.

3. If all else fails in image-inc.php try the switch for NT to use cmd.exe versus exec function in PHP.

4. If this is Imagemagick then remove the profile statement from the command on windows

If you have found some older threads with some replies you have from DonB he was always noted at saying and I brought this up that sometimes no matter what you do in windows its just not going to work. I want to help you beleive me I wish I could but above is the full extense of what we know in years of discussing this. I have always when I do windows installs always got Imagemagick to work so I have never encountered the issue yet but some of you do.

Here is a good example of a windows bug that no one can explain which is similar to your issue. I run a dual system network in my house. I have all permissions set correctly have been on the phone with Microsoft many times and they have no answer for this. My laptop is connected to my network printer all permissions are set works fine from every other computer on the network but when I go to print from my laptop it does not work. However if I browse my network from the laptop and authenticate myself with an id on my main computer printing from the laptop works fine.

Just one of those unexplainable windows permissions issues that there is no answer for. I can try installing imagemagick and jhead for you if you wish on your server but you need to send that info

Can you give me some examples of people on windows doing this? Maybe I can talk to them.

I'm still not sure what you mean about a guest account. I don't have a guest account anywhere on the server.

Is there a way to turn on a debug mode so I can see where it is going wrong.

When I switch to Imagemagic I see an error. But using GD2 I don't get any errors.

We dont have a list of what server's people are using so thats something I can not tell you. I just know national statistics show windows servers to be used by a much lesser crowd

I did offer to look at your server but see no response about that.

Fixed!

It was an issue with the application pool using a different user id.

More types of images to upload if the libraries are installed and you never have to worry about the dreaded PHP memory issue where you get a white page on upload if you upload a big file and GD2 crashes PHP because it is part of PHP and uses up all of PHP's memory trying to process the image.
