Clicking "recent photos" doesn't go to category

I just upgraded to the newest version, and the "recent photos" block on the index page seems to have changed behaviors. When you click on a thumbnail, it used to take you to that particular image and show the other images in the same category in the strip above it. Now it still takes you to the image, but the strip shows the same recent photos shown on the index page.

Is there a configuration or template I can change to get back the original behavior?

If you where running a way old version you might see the difference there but the next prev thumbs have been this way for an extremely long time. They are controlled by any number of queries depending on the information passed to them as in example when a limit=recent etc is passed it gathers them from that info.

There is no switch to make it go back to the way it use to be

Yes, it was an old version. But now I'm getting uploads into the wrong categories.

Is there a "recent photos" block template or file I can edit? The "random photos" block works exactly how I need.
