Error during upload

During upload I receive an error. I wonder if you could assist in fixing this, please:

Error creating thumbnail! Line number 384. Error code: 1

Double check to ensure your data directories are set to 777 at every level.

You can also see if your upload goes through using GD2 as your image processor by changing that in global options in admin

Permissions are set to 777 at every level, and when using GD (either 1 or 2) it gives me an error message stating that the file I'm trying to upload has an unrecognized format.

Looks to me like permissions are not 777 at every level.

Link to your PHP info so we can see which GD you have and what formats it supports

Everything looks fine there so use gd2 and recheck permissions and test what size files work and which ones do not
